The government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, has spared no effort towards the Yemeni people, remaining steadfast in its support for their rights and the necessity to end their suffering since day one. Its support has extended from political and economic backing to humanitarian and relief work, as well as development and reconstruction, affirming that the security and stability of Yemen are part of the security and stability of the region.
The Chairman of the Supreme Council of Yemeni Communities Worldwide and the Chairman of the Yemeni Community in Jeddah, Mahdi Hatim Al-Nahari, stated that Saudi Arabia has been and continues to be the primary support for the Yemeni people, emphasizing that Saudi support has helped spare Yemen a larger humanitarian and economic disaster.
He added: "Saudi support for Yemen, in all its forms—whether political, developmental, or relief-oriented, or in saving the national currency and economy from collapse, in addition to diplomatic support—has been a source of hope for the Yemeni people."
Al-Nahari pointed out that Saudi Arabia has provided billions of dollars for significant developmental and humanitarian projects through the King Salman Relief and Humanitarian Aid Center and the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen, as well as the "Masam" project, which has helped save thousands of families from the dangers of landmines.
During the current year, Saudi Arabia has offered a package of projects and initiatives worth 1.9 billion riyals, targeting the energy, water, education, health, transport, agriculture, and capacity-building sectors, in addition to supporting the Yemeni budget and enhancing developmental partnerships with regional and international institutions.
Saudi support has also extended to the vital electricity sector, as the Kingdom provided urgent support to Yemen in the form of oil derivatives worth 150 million dollars to cover the operational needs of electricity stations using diesel and mazut in various governorates, thereby supporting the continuity of electricity services and the vital sectors associated with them.
In developmental projects, the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen laid the foundation for electricity generation projects on the coast and in the Wadi Hadramout, with a total capacity of 100 megawatts each, which enhances energy production efficiency and operational reliability and ensures the continuity of essential services.
Saudi Arabia Aids Yemenis and Prevents Disasters
The Saudi support included water projects, with the establishment of 7 elevated water tanks and the implementation of modern distribution networks in Marib, benefiting more than 368,000 individuals.
In the housing sector, the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen signed an agreement with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme to rehabilitate 620 housing units in the governorates of Aden, Taiz, and Lahij, contributing to improving living conditions for the beneficiary families.
In the education sector, Saudi projects included the establishment of Al-Sabban Secondary School in the city of Sayun in Hadramout Governorate, which features classrooms, specialized laboratories, and supportive educational facilities, alongside the accelerated work on the project to establish 3 medical colleges at Taiz University, covering medicine, nursing, and pharmacy.
The education system has also been rehabilitated, with 60 projects and initiatives implemented across 11 Yemeni governorates, covering general and higher education as well as technical and vocational training, as part of the Kingdom's support for building human capacities and enhancing educational and qualification opportunities for Yemenis.
This ongoing Saudi presence confirms that the Kingdom's support for Yemen is not limited to responding to crises but extends to pathways of development, reconstruction, and support for the economy and essential services, reflecting the steadfast position of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, in supporting Yemen and its people.
