ترمب يتحدى الديموقراطيين
وأكدت المتحدثة باسم البيت الأبيض أبيجيل جاكسون أن الرئيس ترمب أذن باستخدام أعضاء الحرس الوطني من إلينوي، مشيرة إلى ما وصفته بـ«الاشتباكات العنيفة المستمرة والفوضى» التي لم يتمكن القادة المحليون من كبحها، وقالت جاكسون: «لن يغض الطرف الرئيس ترمب عن الفوضى التي تعصف بالمدن الأمريكية».
بريتزكر: عرض مصطنع للسيطرة!
من جانبه هاجم الحاكم الديموقراطي لإلينوي جي بي بريتزكر إدارة الرئيس ترمب بقوة، وأفاد بأن الحرس الوطني تلقى إشعاراً من البنتاغون في وقت مبكر من اليوم، واصفاً الخطوة بأنها «غير ضرورية وعرض مصطنع، ليست جهداً جاداً لحماية السلامة العامة».
وأضاف بريتزكر في بيان له: «هذا الصباح، أعطتني إدارة ترمب في وزارة الحرب إنذاراً أخيراً: قم بتفعيل قواتك، أو سنفعل نحن».
واعتبر حاكم إلينوي الإجراء «مثيراً للاشمئزاز وغير أمريكي، حيث يطالب حاكماً بإرسال قوات عسكرية داخل حدوده الخاصة وعلى غير إرادته»، موضحاً أن هذا الطلب سيجبر «الأمريكيين الجادين في عملهم على مغادرة وظائفهم وأسرهم للمشاركة في عرض مصطنع ليس جهداً جاداً لحماية السلامة العامة».

وأوضحت المتحدثة باسم الوزارة تريشا ماكلولين أن المرأة المصابة مواطنة أمريكية وكانت مسلحة بسلاح نصف آلي، وأنها اتهمت في نشرة استخباراتية لدورية الحدود الأمريكية الأسبوع الماضي بكشف هوية الوكلاء.
وتلقت المرأة العلاج وأفرج عنها في فترة الظهيرة، وفقاً لمستشفى سيناء الجبل. ولم يصب أي ضابط بجروح خطيرة، حسب ماكلولين.

In a new step reflecting an escalation in internal tensions, U.S. President Donald Trump ordered the deployment of 300 National Guard troops in Illinois to defend federal officers and property in Chicago, where the government reported that border patrol agents shot a woman while firing at a person who attempted to run them over.
Trump Challenges the Democrats
White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson confirmed that President Trump authorized the use of National Guard members from Illinois, pointing to what she described as "ongoing violent clashes and chaos" that local leaders have been unable to contain. Jackson stated, "President Trump will not look the other way at the chaos plaguing American cities."
Pritzker: A Manufactured Show of Control!
For his part, Illinois Democratic Governor J.B. Pritzker strongly criticized the Trump administration, stating that the National Guard received a notification from the Pentagon early today, describing the move as "unnecessary and a manufactured show, not a serious effort to protect public safety."
Pritzker added in a statement: "This morning, the Trump administration at the Department of War gave me an ultimatum: Activate your troops, or we will."
The Illinois governor deemed the action "disgusting and un-American, as it demands a governor to send military forces within his own borders against his will," explaining that this request would force "serious Americans in their jobs to leave their work and families to participate in a manufactured show that is not a serious effort to protect public safety."
He continued: "For Donald Trump, it has never been about safety. It’s about control," noting that this action comes after "an unprecedented escalation of aggression against the citizens and residents of Illinois."
Shooting and Escalating Protests
Trump's decision to deploy the National Guard comes in the wake of a severe crackdown on illegal immigration by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Chicago, which has sparked intense outrage from local civil groups and opposing Democrats.
In his statement, Pritzker confirmed that local, state, and county police forces are already cooperating to ensure the security of the Broadview facility belonging to "ICE" on the outskirts of Chicago.
Federal officials also announced the arrest of 13 people protesting on Friday near the facility, which has faced several attacks during this fall's immigration enforcement escalation.
Shooting of a Woman
Meanwhile, the Department of Homeland Security acknowledged the incident involving the shooting of a woman in the southwest side of Chicago.
The department stated in its announcement that border patrol agents during their patrols "were struck by vehicles and were surrounded by 10 cars," and when they exited their trapped vehicle, "a suspect attempted to run them over, forcing the officers to fire in self-defense."
Department spokesperson Trisha McLaughlin clarified that the injured woman is a U.S. citizen and was armed with a semi-automatic weapon, and she was accused in an intelligence bulletin from the U.S. border patrol last week of revealing the identities of the agents.
The woman received treatment and was released in the afternoon, according to Sinai Health. No officers were seriously injured, according to McLaughlin.
This incident follows the shooting of a Mexican immigrant by federal immigration agents last month in a Chicago suburb after he attempted to flee a traffic stop and collided with an officer with his vehicle.
Trump's Campaign Against the Democrats
Chicago is one of a series of American cities where Trump has deployed or threatened to deploy the National Guard to assist police in a deportation campaign, or in some cases, to respond to exaggerated claims about crime levels.
Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen and Border Patrol Chief Gregory Bovino visited the Broadview facility belonging to "ICE" in the suburbs of Chicago on Friday, which has become a site for escalating federal agents against protesters and journalists.
Nielsen promised via social media on Saturday afternoon to send additional reinforcements to Chicago: "I am deploying more special operations to take control of the site. Reinforcements are on the way; if you see a law enforcement officer today, thank them."
The Trump administration has targeted Chicago with federal law enforcement since August, claiming an increase in crime rates in the city in recent years.
Since then, reports of more aggressive "ICE" enforcement in communities have been recorded, including helicopters hovering over apartment raids and arrests of local officials and candidates who protest the operations.
Trump has also repeatedly deployed National Guard troops in other American cities, from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C., although federal law generally prohibits the use of the military for domestic law enforcement, and this ongoing pattern of military occupation on U.S. soil has raised widespread concerns about the politicization of the U.S. military.
Injunction in Portland
In a parallel development, a federal judge on Saturday halted the Trump administration from deploying the National Guard in Portland, Oregon, according to court documents. In the temporary order issued on Saturday, federal judge Karen Immergut – appointed by Trump – agreed with Oregon's claim that the deployment of federal National Guard troops in Portland would inflame protests rather than calm them, as happened in 2020.
