The Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi emphasized the importance of closely monitoring all details on the ground to ensure that the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum, scheduled for November 1, comes out in a manner befitting its status as a global cultural and archaeological landmark, in addition to continuing to work on enhancing the visual image of the surrounding area.

This came during Sisi's meeting today (Sunday) with Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy.

Enhancing the Role of the Private Sector

According to a statement issued by the Egyptian presidency, Sisi stressed the necessity of the private sector playing a pivotal role in tourism investment, which contributes to increasing the number of tourists coming to Egypt, developing the tourism infrastructure, achieving diversity in destinations, in addition to putting together a marketing plan targeting new markets, and working to maximize dollar revenues from the tourism sector, and governing the system to ensure its sustainability.

During the meeting, ways to promote the tourism sector and develop hotel facilities to accommodate larger numbers of tourists were discussed, where the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities pointed out that the sector is currently witnessing the highest growth rates and is one of the most attractive sectors for hard currency.

Incentive Measures for the Tourism Sector

In this context, the minister reviewed a number of measures recently taken to stimulate the sector, particularly those related to facilitating the procedures for converting lands and buildings into hotel activities, as well as increasing the number of vacation apartments, which contributes to increasing the accommodation capacity of hotel rooms.

Enhancing Cooperation with UNESCO

The Egyptian president also followed up on ways to enhance cooperation with UNESCO in the field of protecting and preserving cultural heritage and archaeological sites, as well as the efforts made in the area of restoration, development, and improving the services provided to visitors in museums and archaeological sites.

Sisi emphasized in this regard the importance of applying the principles of sustainable development in managing the archaeological sites registered on the World Heritage List, and exploring mechanisms for cooperation with UNESCO to establish a comprehensive future vision for preserving these sites.
