The Israeli army announced today (Monday) the recovery of the body of the last captive soldier, Ran Givli, from Gaza, after identifying the last remaining body.

The spokesperson for the Israeli army, Captain Ella, stated: “After completing the identification procedures by the National Center for Forensic Medicine, the army informed the family of the late captive Ran Givli that their loved one has been returned for burial,” adding: “Thus, all captives from within the Gaza Strip have been returned.”

Netanyahu confirms the recovery of the captive

At the same time, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said: “We have brought everyone back as we promised, down to the last detainee,” adding: “This is a tremendous achievement for the Israeli army, as well as for the citizens of Israel.”

This announcement is the first since 2014 that Israel no longer has any captives or bodies in the Gaza Strip.

In contrast, Hamas announced that the exchange process is now completely closed, clarifying in a statement its continued commitment to facilitating the work of the Gaza Management Committee and ensuring its success.

The Israeli occupation army had stated yesterday that it is conducting a large-scale operation in a cemetery in northern Gaza to find the remains of the hostage Ran Givli.

On another note, the Israeli army radio reported today (Monday) that the Rafah crossing will open in the coming days, following the approval of the security cabinet on the following mechanism.

Inspection mechanism for opening the Rafah crossing

The radio stated that exiting Gaza to Egypt will occur without direct Israeli security inspections, and that the verification and identification process will be handled by a mission from the European Union with the participation of Palestinian elements from Gaza who have received security approval, and with an official seal from the Palestinian Authority, while Israel will only maintain remote supervision, indicating that entry from Egypt to Gaza will be more stringent.

It noted that there will be an initial European inspection at the Rafah crossing, followed by the transfer of entrants through a special corridor within an area under Israeli control for Israeli security inspections, “aimed at preventing smuggling or the entry of unauthorized individuals.”

It pointed out that the daily quotas have not yet been finalized, but estimates suggest allowing a few hundred to enter and exit daily, depending on the capacity of the crossing and inspection procedures.

The agency reported that the Shin Bet will conduct prior approval on all names based on a security assessment, with the possibility of allowing the exit of low-level Hamas activists not involved in killings, in addition to family members of Hamas members.
