The first days of a honeymoon turned into a tragic end for a bride after she passed away due to a severe allergic reaction to shrimp, just 11 days after celebrating her wedding.
The incident occurred in the city of Leiria, Portugal, which was the final stop on a European trip taken by the Brazilian bride Amanda Nascimento, 29, along with her husband Thiago Nascimento following their marriage.
Amanda, who works as a nurse in the intensive care unit of a Brazilian hospital, had celebrated her wedding before embarking on the honeymoon trip they had planned for a long time. While at a restaurant in the city, Amanda ordered a meal that included shrimp and other seafood, after believing that the dish contained only fish, according to what she understood from her prior inquiry to the restaurant staff.
About two hours after eating the meal, while the couple was strolling through the city, she suddenly exhibited symptoms of anaphylaxis, prompting her to be rushed to Leiria Hospital for medical care. As her condition deteriorated, it was decided to transfer her to Coimbra University Hospital for more specialized care, but her health rapidly declined during the journey. The tragedy ended with her suffering a cardiac arrest before reaching the hospital, leading to her death and turning the planned return trip to her home country a few days later into a sad memory for her family and husband.
