Sources revealed to "Okaz" that the management of Al-Nassr Club has completed all the necessary permits, requirements, and procedures for the arrival of the Al-Wasl team from the UAE, which was supposed to arrive in Saudi Arabia yesterday to play in the third round of the AFC Champions League. However, the team has not yet arrived, and the reasons remain unclear.
The sources indicated that the refereeing crews and match observers arrived in Saudi Arabia since yesterday, while Al-Nassr's management continues to wait for the arrival of the Emirati team.
According to the sources, the Asian Football Confederation received the Al-Ol Park stadium 48 hours before the match and began its field preparations, including removing local commercial banners and replacing them with the logos of the tournament's sponsors, in a move that reflects the completion of field and organizational preparations for the match as scheduled.
The sources added that Al-Nassr's management contacted the Saudi Football Federation, represented by its Secretary General Majid Al-Sahib, and requested him to communicate with the Asian Federation and exert pressure to preserve the rights of the Saudi club. They also informed the continental federation of the latest developments, emphasizing their refusal to postpone the match and their insistence on considering Al-Wasl as withdrawn if they do not attend, according to the approved regulations and rules.
The sources recalled Al-Nassr's participation last season in the second AFC Champions League, when they played their matches in a gathering format in the UAE, adhered to the approved schedule, and faced Al-Wasl and Al-Ahli of Qatar without requesting a postponement due to regional circumstances.
The management of Al-Nassr insists on holding the match on time, believing that the completion of organizational and field preparations, along with the arrival of refereeing crews and observers, necessitates resolving the situation according to continental regulations, in a way that preserves the rights of the Saudi club and ensures fairness in competition and equal opportunities among clubs.
