تتواصل عمليات البحث والإنقاذ قبالة السواحل الشمالية لقبرص بعد غرق قارب كان يقل نحو 270 شخصًا، وفق ما أفادت به وكالة (رويترز)، في حادث بحري كبير استدعى تدخلًا واسعًا من خفر السواحل وقوارب مدنية كانت قريبة من موقع الغرق.
ووفق المعلومات الأولية المتداولة في وسائل الإعلام المحلية، وقع الحادث على مقربة من مدينة كيرينيا (غيرنه)، على مسافة تتراوح بين كيلومترين إلى 2.5 كيلومتر من الشاطئ، وذلك بعد وقت قصير من مغادرة القارب ميناء المدينة متجهًا إلى تاشوجو في تركيا.
وتشير التقديرات الأولية إلى أن القارب تعرّض لتسرّب مياه من مقدّمته، ما دفع القبطان لمحاولة العودة نحو الساحل، قبل أن يفقد السيطرة وينقلب في البحر، لتبدأ بعدها عمليات الإنقاذ التي لا تزال مستمرة حتى الآن.
Search and rescue operations continue off the northern coast of Cyprus after a boat carrying around 270 people sank, according to the (Reuters) agency, in a major maritime incident that prompted a wide response from the coast guard and nearby civilian boats.
According to initial information circulating in local media, the incident occurred near the city of Kyrenia (Girne), at a distance of between two to 2.5 kilometers from the shore, shortly after the boat left the city's port heading to Tasucu in Turkey.
Initial estimates suggest that the boat suffered water leakage from its bow, prompting the captain to attempt to return to shore before losing control and capsizing in the sea, after which rescue operations began and are still ongoing.
