أعلنت منظمة الصحة العالمية أن تفشي إيبولا في جمهورية الكونغو الديمقراطية وأوغندا يشكّل حالة طوارئ صحية عامة تثير قلقًا دوليًا، دون اعتباره جائحة عالمية، مؤكدة أن التفشي الحالي يمثل خطرًا مرتفعًا على المستويين الوطني والإقليمي، لكنه لا يصنّف حاليًا جائحة عالمية.
وأوضح مدير عام المنظمة الدكتور تيدروس أدهانوم في مؤتمر صحفي، أن لجنة الطوارئ التابعة للوائح الصحية الدولية عقدت اجتماعًا بشأن تفشي وباء إيبولا الناجم عن فيروس «بونديبوجي», وأصدرت عدة توصيات ركزت على تعزيز الرصد الوبائي والكشف المبكر وتسريع تتبع المخالطين وزيادة قدرات الفحص المخبري خاصة مع وجود مئات الحالات المشتبه بها، وصعوبة تقدير الحجم الحقيقي للتفشي.
The World Health Organization announced that the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda constitutes a public health emergency of international concern, without classifying it as a global pandemic. It emphasized that the current outbreak poses a high risk at both national and regional levels, but it is not currently classified as a global pandemic.
Dr. Tedros Adhanom, the Director-General of the organization, explained in a press conference that the Emergency Committee under the International Health Regulations held a meeting regarding the Ebola outbreak caused by the "Bundibugyo" virus, and issued several recommendations focused on enhancing epidemiological surveillance, early detection, accelerating contact tracing, and increasing laboratory testing capacities, especially given the presence of hundreds of suspected cases and the difficulty in estimating the true scale of the outbreak.
