أعلنت منصة سناب شات حظر أو تعطيل أكثر من 415 ألف حساب لمستخدمين أستراليين يقل عمرهم عن 16 عامًا، في إطار تنفيذ حظر استخدام منصات التواصل الاجتماعي للأطفال دون 16 عامًا.
وذكرت الشركة في مدونتها الرسمية أن الحسابات تم تعطيلها حتى نهاية يناير 2026، سواء للأشخاص الذين أعلنوا أعمارهم دون 16 عامًا، أو الذين رصدتهم تقنيات المنصة لتقدير العمر ضمن هذه الفئة، وأضافت: «نواصل يوميًا حظر المزيد من الحسابات».
يُذكر أن سناب شات كان واحدًا من بين عشر منصات مُلزمة بتطبيق الحظر الذي بدأ في ديسمبر الماضي، والذي أشار إليه رئيس الوزراء أنتوني ألبانيز باعتباره ناجحًا، بعد تعطيل أو إزالة نحو 4.7 مليون حساب في الأيام الأولى من الحظر على هذه المنصات.
ثغرات تقنية تضعف الحظر
ومع ذلك، ظهرت تقارير تفيد بأن تقنية تقدير العمر عبر الوجه التي تعتمد عليها سناب شات يمكن تجاوزها بسهولة من قبل بعض المراهقين، وأكدت الشركة أن هناك «ثغرات كبيرة» في تنفيذ الحظر، مشيرةً إلى وجود «قيود تقنية فعلية على التحقق الدقيق والموثوق من العمر».
وأوضحت أن تجارب العام الماضي أظهرت أن تقنية تقدير العمر كانت دقيقة فقط ضمن فترة تفاوت عامين أو ثلاثة عن العمر الفعلي، ما يعني إمكانية تجاوز بعض المستخدمين دون 16 عامًا للحظر، بينما قد يفقد آخرون أكثر من 16 عامًا إمكانية الوصول عن طريق الخطأ.
كما أشار سناب شات إلى وجود تطبيقات أخرى لمراسلة المستخدمين لم يشملها الحظر، ما قد يدفع المراهقين للانتقال إلى تطبيقات أقل تنظيمًا.
وقالت الشركة: «على الرغم من عدم وجود بيانات دقيقة حول هذا التحول بعد، إلا أن المخاطر تستحق النظر الجاد من قبل صانعي السياسات».
متابعة تنظيمية وتركيز على أكبر المنصات
وقالت مفوضة السلامة الإلكترونية جولي إنمان غرانت، إن تركيز الرقابة منذ بدء الحظر كان على المنصات العشر الكبرى، والتي تضم أكثر من 250 ألف مستخدم، بينما تستمر متابعة الشركات الأصغر كجزء من عملية تدريجية، وأضافت: «لن ننتهي بعد، وما زال العمل جاريا».

يُذكر أن إجمالي الحسابات التي تم تعطيلها منذ بدء الحظر على المنصات العشر بلغ 4.7 مليون، وتشمل هذه الحسابات غير النشطة والتكرارية إلى جانب الحسابات تحت سن 16 عامًا، وحتى الآن، لم تصدر باقي المنصات غير سناب شات وميتا بيانات عن عدد الحسابات المعطلة.
The Snapchat platform announced the banning or disabling of more than 415,000 accounts of Australian users under the age of 16, as part of the implementation of a ban on social media platforms for children under 16 years old.
The company mentioned in its official blog that the accounts have been disabled until the end of January 2026, whether for individuals who declared their ages to be under 16 or those whom the platform's technologies estimated to be within this age group. It added, "We continue to ban more accounts daily."
It is worth noting that Snapchat was one of ten platforms required to implement the ban that began last December, which Prime Minister Anthony Albanese referred to as successful, after disabling or removing about 4.7 million accounts in the early days of the ban on these platforms.
Technical Vulnerabilities Undermining the Ban
However, reports have emerged indicating that the facial age estimation technology relied upon by Snapchat can be easily bypassed by some teenagers. The company confirmed that there are "significant loopholes" in the implementation of the ban, pointing out that there are "actual technical limitations on accurate and reliable age verification."
It explained that last year's experiments showed that the age estimation technology was only accurate within a two to three-year variance from the actual age, meaning some users under 16 could bypass the ban, while others over 16 might lose access by mistake.
Snapchat also noted the existence of other messaging applications not included in the ban, which could drive teenagers to switch to less regulated apps.
The company stated, "Although there is no precise data on this shift yet, the risks deserve serious consideration by policymakers."
Regulatory Follow-up and Focus on Major Platforms
Electronic Safety Commissioner Julie Inman Grant stated that the focus of oversight since the start of the ban has been on the ten largest platforms, which include more than 250,000 users, while monitoring smaller companies continues as part of a gradual process. She added, "We are not done yet, and work is still ongoing."
The commissioner emphasized the need to improve age verification technologies, noting that Snapchat was using facial age estimation technology without a "liveness test" to ensure that the image is real, warning that incorrect settings could lead to inaccurate results.
Total Numbers of the Ban
It is noted that the total number of accounts disabled since the start of the ban on the ten platforms has reached 4.7 million, including inactive and duplicate accounts as well as accounts under the age of 16. So far, the other platforms besides Snapchat and Meta have not released data on the number of disabled accounts.
