وأظهرت لقطات متداولة الشاب البالغ من العمر 36 عاماً وهو يحمل أغراضه قبل أن يهاجمه كلب ضال بشكل مفاجئ ويعضه في ساعده، وسط دهشة المارة. وجرى نقل الشاب فوراً إلى المستشفى لتلقي العلاج، إذ تم تضميد الجرح وخياطته، وتلقى مصلاً مضاداً لداء الكلب.
وبعد أسابيع، ظهرت على الشاب أعراض خطيرة تشبه الإنفلونزا، منها ضعف عام، وحمى، وزكام، وخدر موضعي في مكان العضة، ما أثار قلق عائلته من فاعلية العلاج المقدم له. وأكدت العائلة أن نقص الكوادر الطبية في قسم الطوارئ وإجراءات العلاج غير الكافية كان له دور مباشر في تفاقم حالته، وهو ما أثار غضب المستخدمين على وسائل التواصل.
وأثارت الحادثة جدلاً واسعاً بين العراقيين، مع مطالبات بفتح تحقيق عاجل لمعرفة ملابسات الحادثة وضمان عدم تكرارها، وسط تحذيرات من انتشار حالات مشابهة في مناطق أخرى بسبب الكلاب الضالة والإهمال الطبي المحتمل.
