في واقعة صادمة أشعلت وسائل الإعلام الهندية، كشفت الشرطة في ولاية تاميل نادو جريمة قتل غير معتادة، نفذها شقيقان بحق والدهما باستخدام ثعبانين سامّين من نوع كوبرا وكريت، بهدف الاستيلاء على أمواله وممتلكاته.
وبحسب التحقيقات، دفع الشقيقان نحو 150 ألف روبية لشركاء في الجريمة لتوفير الثعابين ومساعدتهم في تنفيذ العملية، محاولين إيهام الجميع بأن الوفاة ناتجة عن لدغة ثعبان طبيعية، وهي حوادث شائعة في بعض المناطق الريفية بالهند.
وبعد تعرضه للدغات الأفاعي، توفي الأب لكن تناقضات في روايات أفراد الأسرة أثارت الشكوك، ما دفع الشرطة لفتح تحقيق موسّع. ومع التقدم في التحقيق، تبين أن الوفاة لم تكن حادثة عرضية، بل كانت جريمة مخطّطاً لها بعناية، إذ استعان الشقيقان بأشخاص لديهم خبرة في التعامل مع الثعابين السامة لضمان تنفيذ المخطط دون لفت الانتباه.
ووصفت السلطات الأمنية الحادثة بأنها من الحالات النادرة جدّاً التي يُستخدم فيها الحيوان كسلاح لارتكاب جريمة، ما جعل القضية تحظى باهتمام كبير داخل الهند وخارجها. وقد ألقت الشرطة القبض على الشقيقين والمتورطين الآخرين، فيما لا تزال التحقيقات جارية لتحديد الأدوار الدقيقة لكل متهم ومراجعة الوثائق المالية لتأكيد دوافع الميراث وتتبع الأموال المدفوعة لتنفيذ الجريمة.
