The Brazilian striker Igor Jesus has become a headline and a widely discussed name on all fronts following his brilliance in his team's (Botafogo) first two matches against Seattle and Paris Saint-Germain, where he was awarded the Best Player in both matches. Most importantly, he scored the historic winning goal for his team against the UEFA Champions League champion Paris Saint-Germain.
Igor Jesus began his football journey in the youth ranks of Coritiba before a significant turning point in his career occurred when he transferred to Al Ahli in the UAE in the 2020 season for a fee of two million euros. He shone remarkably with the team in his first season, and his market value rose to five million euros. However, recurring injuries with "Dubai's Knights" affected his performance, causing him to miss long periods of matches, and his market value dropped to 1.5 million euros in 2022, according to the player transfer market website "Transfermarkt."
Igor suffered three serious injuries with Al Ahli over three seasons, with his first injury being a knee ligament tear in October 2021, which kept him off the field for more than a year. After returning at the start of the 2022-2023 season, he played the first six matches of the season but injured his knee again, leading to an urgent surgery followed by a treatment and rehabilitation program. Meanwhile, he suffered another injury, causing him to miss three months with the team.
On the other hand, Igor Jesus shone in the last six months of his contract with "Dubai's Knights," impressing enough to catch the attention of Botafogo, which agreed with him in January 2024 for his transfer during the summer transfer window.
Igor participated in 87 matches with Al Ahli, scoring 43 goals and providing 20 assists. He won four titles with "Dubai's Knights," including the UAE Pro League, the Super Cup, and the Professional Cup twice.
Igor Jesus was just a few months away from being eligible to represent the UAE national team after completing the necessary legal period. However, after his impressive performance in recent months with Al Ahli and receiving an offer from Botafogo, he decided to accept the offer and abandon the idea of representing the UAE national team. He has excelled with his new team, playing 19 matches, scoring seven goals, and providing one assist. Botafogo currently leads the Brazilian league standings and has qualified for the semifinals of the Copa Libertadores. His market value has risen to six million euros, the highest value he has reached, and he was selected for the Brazil national team for the first time in his career, where he announced himself and won the hearts of the Brazilian audience with his stellar performance in his international debut by scoring a goal.
