The Ministry of Commerce has warned commercial establishments (companies and institutions) against sharing or uploading their commercial, personal, and financial data through unreliable websites and electronic platforms that claim to protect the digital identity of establishments, which do not have a legal status, making it impossible to verify their purpose for collecting data and the mechanisms for storing and protecting it.
The ministry emphasized the importance of not providing any unreliable entity with data that includes commercial records, tax numbers, national addresses, contact numbers, bank accounts, IBAN numbers, documents, attachments, or any data that can be used to identify the establishment or its owner, except after verifying the entity and the purpose of data collection and the legal basis for processing it.
This comes in light of the increasing number of fake websites and platforms that claim to offer services under various names and request users to upload and gather multiple data in one place, which may expose establishments and individuals to the risks of data misuse or sharing with other parties, especially when the operator of the platform and the privacy policy and purposes of data use are not verified. Additionally, the use of certain platforms' logos or names that suggest a connection to a government entity does not, in itself, serve as evidence of such a connection.
The ministry urged establishments and individuals to engage with government services through official channels and platforms, to verify the service provider before entering or uploading any data, and not to share passwords, verification codes, or login data for government or bank accounts with any entity.
The ministry confirmed that data protection is a shared responsibility, calling for reporting any commercial or electronic practices suspected of violating regulations through official channels, and not to be swayed by links or services that request data beyond what is necessary to provide the service.
