قاد المدرب المؤقت محمد الشلهوب الزعيم لتحقيق انتصار مهم جداً للغاية على نظيره نادي القادسية بهدفين دون مقابل ضمن ختام منافسات دوري روشن السعودي، مما ضمن له التأهل إلى النخبة الآسيوية.
جاء هذا الفوز بعد فترة صعبة عاشها الفريق، إذ تمت إقالة المدرب البرتغالي جورجي جيسوس عقب خسارته في نصف نهائي دوري أبطال آسيا أمام الأهلي.
