منذ انتخاب الاتحاد السعودي لكرة القدم الحالي في عام 2019، شارك في الكثير من البطولات القارية والإقليمية والعالمية، مدعومة بإمكانات كبيرة وطموحات واسعة، إلا أن تلك المشاركات لم تنعكس على سجل الإنجازات، بعدما غاب «الأخضر» عن منصات التتويج، وخرج من معظم الاستحقاقات دون تحقيق الأهداف التي كانت تنتظرها الجماهير.
وسجل المنتخب حضوره في كأس العالم 2022، وحقق خلالها فوزًا تاريخيًا على منتخب الأرجنتين في افتتاح مشواره، إلا أنه ودّع البطولة من دور المجموعات، قبل أن يتكرر السيناريو ذاته في كأس العالم 2026 بالخروج المبكر، رغم الطموحات الكبيرة التي سبقت المشاركة.
وعلى الصعيد القاري، لم ينجح «الأخضر» في تحقيق النتائج المنتظرة في كأس آسيا 2019 وكأس آسيا 2023، كما غادر بطولتي كأس الخليج العربي 24 وكأس الخليج العربي 25 دون الوصول إلى منصة التتويج.
كما شارك المنتخب في كأس العرب 2021، وبلغ نصف نهائي كأس العرب 2025 قبل أن يغادر المنافسة، إضافة إلى مشاركته في الكأس الذهبية للكونكاكاف ضمن مشاركة خاصة للمنتخبات من خارج القارة.
ويُعد الخروج من دور المجموعات في كأس العالم 2026 أحدث حلقات النتائج التي وضعت أداء المنتخب ومنظومة العمل في الاتحاد السعودي لكرة القدم تحت دائرة التقييم، في ظل استمرار غياب الإنجازات منذ عام 2019، رغم تعدد المشاركات والدعم الكبير الذي حظي به المنتخب. وتفرض المرحلة القادمة مراجعة شاملة للجوانب الفنية والإدارية، والعمل على معالجة مكامن الخلل، بما يعيد «الأخضر» إلى دائرة المنافسة الحقيقية، ويواكب تطلعات الجماهير السعودية في الاستحقاقات القادمة.
Since the election of the current Saudi Football Federation in 2019, it has participated in many continental, regional, and global tournaments, supported by significant capabilities and wide-ranging ambitions. However, these participations have not reflected positively on the achievement record, as the "Green" team has been absent from the podiums, exiting most competitions without achieving the goals that the fans were hoping for.
The national team made its presence felt in the 2022 World Cup, achieving a historic victory over Argentina in the opening match. However, it was eliminated from the tournament in the group stage, and the same scenario repeated itself in the 2026 World Cup with an early exit, despite the great ambitions that preceded the participation.
On the continental level, the "Green" team did not succeed in achieving the expected results in the 2019 Asian Cup and the 2023 Asian Cup, and it also exited the 24th and 25th Arabian Gulf Cup tournaments without reaching the podium.
The team also participated in the 2021 Arab Cup, reaching the semifinals of the 2025 Arab Cup before exiting the competition, in addition to its participation in the CONCACAF Gold Cup as part of a special participation for teams from outside the continent.
The exit from the group stage in the 2026 World Cup is the latest chapter in the results that have placed the team's performance and the working system of the Saudi Football Federation under evaluation, amid the continued absence of achievements since 2019, despite multiple participations and the significant support the team has received. The upcoming phase necessitates a comprehensive review of the technical and administrative aspects, and working to address the shortcomings, in order to bring the "Green" team back into the realm of real competition and meet the aspirations of Saudi fans in the upcoming challenges.
