شهد اللقاء بداية مثيرة من أصحاب الأرض والجمهور ومن انفرادة للاعب مانشستر يونايتد مبويمو تعرض للإعاقة من حارس تشيلسي سانشيز ليمنحه الحكم البطاقة الحمراء مباشرة (د:5)، كأسرع بطاقة حمراء للاعب من تشيلسي في الدوري الممتاز، وثالث أسرع بطاقة حمراء لحارس مرمى في المسابقة حسب إحصاءات «أوبتا»، ومن لمحة فنية رائعة بدأت من نصير مزراوي الذي لعب كرة عرضية عالية لزميله باتريك دورغو الذي لعبها برأسه للمنفرد برونو فيرنانديز الذي كسر التسلل وانبرى للكرة بقدمه اليمنى لتسكن الشباك هدفاً أول (د:14)، وواصل يونايتد ضغطه ومن عرضية أخرى من مزراوي تصل الكرة إلى هاري ماغواير ليلعبها برأسه تجاه كاسيميرو الذي وضع الكرة في المرمى برأسه أيضاً هدفاً ثانياً ليونايتد (د:37)، وقبل نهاية الشوط الأول تحصل كاسيميرو على البطاقة الصفراء الثانية ليمنحه الحكم البطاقة الحمراء (د:45+5)، ونشط أداء تشيلسي في الشوط الثاني وتمكن من تقليص الفارق بعد أن لعب ريس جيمس كرة عرضية عالية داخل منطقة الجزاء طار لها تريفوه تشالوباه وعكس برأسه لداخل الشباك هدفاً لتشيلسي (د:80)، لينتهي اللقاء بفوز مانشستر يونايتد بهدفين لهدف.
