The Iranian Foreign Ministry has revealed that it has received a new American proposal, and its spokesperson, Ismail Baqaei, announced today (Sunday) that Tehran has indeed responded to Washington's proposal that was received last week.
Baqaei pointed out that "the new proposal is similar to previous proposals and focuses on the nuclear file, while Tehran wishes to focus on the Strait of Hormuz." He stated that his country wants to focus on the Strait of Hormuz, not on the nuclear file. He added that there are additional points that still need to be communicated to the American side.
He confirmed that "the issue of the return of International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors was not discussed," according to what was reported by Reuters. According to Baqaei, the recent talks did not address the nuclear file, and claims of our agreement to inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency are baseless.
In another context, the Iranian Foreign Ministry mentioned that it is conducting consultations to resume flights with other countries after its success with Iraq.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf announced that the Strait of Hormuz will not be reopened unless the seven Iranian conditions outlined in the interim agreement with the United States last June are met, just days after Tehran received Washington's response to its diplomatic proposal.
The chief negotiator stated, "The Americans, who say something different in the media, have recently proposed through a mediator. But they must realize that the phase of procrastination and imposing unilateral demands has ended."
Meanwhile, the British Maritime Trade Operations reported receiving a notification from a tanker that reported being hit by an unknown projectile inside the Strait of Hormuz, causing damage to the engine room.
It added that the crew is safe and there are no reports of any environmental impact.
