The far-right presidential candidate for France, Marine Le Pen, announced her full support for her prominent ally Jordan Bardella after a news site published conversations attributed to him from 2013 that included anti-Semitic comments.
Le Pen stated in a brief comment to the newspaper "La Tribune Dimanche" today, Sunday: "I have complete confidence in Jordan." Bardella, the candidate for the position of Prime Minister if Le Pen wins the presidency, denied these allegations. Le Pen strongly defended Bardella last week after the site "Mediapart" first published the allegations last Monday. However, her recent comment came after "Mediapart" published a second report on Thursday. A poll published last Monday indicated that Le Pen would easily lead the first round of elections scheduled for next year and would overcome any competitor in the runoff to reach the Élysée Palace. Le Pen remains committed to running despite her conviction in a fraud case related to fictitious jobs in the European Parliament, which she considers to be fabricated by her opponents. Bardella (31 years old) announced that he would file a lawsuit against "Mediapart" for defamation and also for "forgery and use of forged documents." According to the report, Bardella wrote among other comments in one of the conversations: "The Jew must dominate and crush other peoples and rob them; the Zionist is necessarily a Jew, and this is fundamentally so," and the report mentioned that he wrote the phrase "All banks are owned by Jews." Bardella plays a key role in Le Pen's project to remove the stigma from the National Rally party and transform it into a winning electoral force, distancing it from the legacy of her late father, Jean-Marie Le Pen, the founder and leader of the party formerly known as the National Front, who repeatedly made anti-Semitic statements. Bardella clarified that the "Mediapart" report represents the beginning of a "total war" to derail Le Pen's campaign. However, the site reported that it verified the authenticity of the messages. Mediapart reported that the personal details revealed in the conversations prove that the person in question is Bardella, including his mother's birth in Italy and a reference to an interview he conducted with the newspaper "Le Parisien" in 2013 and his failure in the entrance exam for the prestigious "Sciences Po" university.
