The Turkish Ministry of Defense announced today (Friday) that the Chief of Staff's visit is part of the agreement, while the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan discussed during a consultative meeting the latest developments in implementing the Mecca Agreement on mutual defense.
The ministry clarified that the meeting discussed the ongoing arrangements for holding an urgent meeting of the Chiefs of Staff of the three countries to explore ways to support the Kingdom within the framework of the agreement, while Ankara and Islamabad expressed their readiness to assist in meeting any military needs of the Kingdom if necessary.
Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan signed the Mecca Agreement on mutual defense on August 7, during a trilateral summit hosted in Mecca, which brought together Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.
The upcoming meeting of the Chiefs of Staff reflects a shift in coordination between the three countries to a more direct military level, after the agreement began to be activated through political and diplomatic communications and movements, amid rapidly evolving security developments in the region.
