لم تشفع النجومية للممثلة المخضرمة سوزان ساراندون والشابة هانا آينبيندر، بطلة مسلسل «هاكس»، أمام التدخل الحازم لشرطة نيويورك. ففي قلب مانهاتن وبالقرب من أروقة الأمم المتحدة، تحولت النجمتان في لحظات إلى معتقلتين، بعد انخراطهما في تظاهرة حاشدة دعت إليها حركة «صوت يهودي من أجل السلام» للتنديد بزيارة رئيس الوزراء الإسرائيلي بنيامين نتنياهو.
المشهد كان مشحوناً بالغضب، لافتات عريضة طوقت التقاطعات الحيوية تطالب بـ«إنهاء الإبادة» و«وقف تسليح إسرائيل».
وبحسب بيان شرطة نيويورك، فإن التدخل الأمني جاء رداً على شلل حركة المرور، حيث أصر المحتجون على إغلاق الشارع رغم التحذيرات المتكررة من مكتب شؤون المجتمع بضرورة التفرق، لتنطلق حملة اعتقالات طالت كل من رفض الامتثال للأوامر، وتتصدر صور ساراندون وآينبيندر وهما تُقتادان من قبل عناصر الأمن شبكات التواصل الاجتماعي.
وخارج أسوار التظاهرة، لم يكن المشهد أقل حدة، فقبيل بدء نتنياهو كلمته، انسحبت عشرات الوفود الدبلوماسية من الجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة وسط صيحات استهجان.
أما بالنسبة لساراندون، فهذا الاعتقال ليس سوى ضريبة جديدة تدفعها من رصيدها المهني بسبب مواقفها الصريحة المناهضة للحرب على غزة، وهي المواقف التي دفعتها للاعتراف بمرارة، قبل أسابيع فقط خلال مهرجان البندقية السينمائي، بأنها أصبحت منبوذة في هوليوود، قائلة بوضوح: «أنا أفقد فرص عمل بسبب آرائي».

Outside the protest, the scene was no less intense, as just before Netanyahu began his speech, dozens of diplomatic delegations withdrew from the United Nations General Assembly amid boos.
As for Sarandon, this arrest is just another price she pays from her professional capital due to her outspoken anti-war stance on Gaza, a position that led her to bitterly acknowledge, just weeks ago at the Venice Film Festival, that she has become an outcast in Hollywood, stating clearly: "I am losing job opportunities because of my opinions."
