Italian club Udinese announced today (Thursday) that they have signed Austrian defender David Alaba on a free transfer, following the expiration of his contract with Spanish club Real Madrid.
One-year contract
The club stated in a statement on its official website that the 34-year-old player has signed a contract to join Udinese until June 30, 2027.
Legendary career
Alaba has played for two of Europe's giants, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, winning 39 titles with them, most notably lifting the UEFA Champions League four times, twice with each team, and the FIFA Club World Cup three times (twice with Bayern Munich and once with Real Madrid).
On the international level, Alaba has been a captain and symbol for the Austrian national team for over a decade, participating in 117 matches and scoring 15 goals, representing his country in two European Championships and the most recent World Cup.
Alaba: I didn't come to end my career
For his part, Alaba said after signing the contract: "The coach was very clear about the role he envisions for me and what he wants us to achieve together. Of course, I want to bring my experience to the rest of the team, take on responsibility, and help my teammates whenever I can, especially the younger players."
He added: "I'm not here just to be the veteran player on the team, and I'm definitely not here to end my career. I still aspire to that, and I firmly believe that I have a lot to offer on the pitch. I want to keep striving, delivering my best performance in Serie A week after week, and achieve something. I am very excited about this challenge, and I still have a lot to prove to myself."
