كشف وزير الخارجية البحريني الدكتور عبداللطيف الزياني أجندة الاجتماع الوزاري المشترك بين دول مجلس التعاون لدول الخليج العربية والولايات المتحدة الأمريكية المنعقد في العاصمة المنامة اليوم (الخميس)، مؤكداً أنه يبحث سيادة واستقرار سورية ولبنان وتوسيع الشراكة مع الولايات المتحدة وأمن دول الخليج الذي قال إنه لا يقبل التقسيم.
وقال الزياني في افتتاح الاجتماع: «دول الخليج تطلع لفصل جديد لمنطقتنا يؤسس على السيادة واحترام القانون»، مرحباً بإعلان سلطنة عمان توفير ممر آمن لعبور السفن عبر مضيق هرمز.
وشدد على ضرورة وفاء إيران بالتزاماتها، مبيناً أن هناك بصيص أمل للمنطقة بعد توقيع مذكرة التفاهم بين أمريكا وإيران.
وأضاف: «إن هجمات إيران كانت اختبارا وأثبتت صلابة وقوة مؤسساتنا ومجتمعاتنا»، مبيناً أن الوقت الراهن هو الحاسم للمنطقة.
من جهته، قال وزير الخارجية الأمريكي ماركو روبيو إن الولايات المتحدة تهدف لتحقيق أمن واستقرار المنطقة والعالم، مبيناً أن التحالف بين الولايات المتحدة ودول الخليج خضع لاختبار خلال الأحداث الماضية قائلاً: «إن مستوى التعاون والصداقة بيننا والخليج خلال الأوقات الصعبة نجح وبتميز».
وأعرب روبيو عن تقدير بلاده لدول الخليج بالقول: «نقدر شراكتكم وتحالفنا ليس في القطاع الدفاعي فقط، ولكن القطاع الاقتصادي أيضاً. الولايات المتحدة ملتزمة بهذه الشراكة وستضمن أن أي اتفاق يعقد مع إيران، لن يكون متعارضاً مع مصالح أي من الدول الممثلة هنا»، وتابع: «أنتم شركاؤنا وحلفاؤنا، والشركاء لا يقوضون مصالح بعضهم».
وأضاف: «ندخل اليوم مرحلة جديدة نأمل أن تقود إلى السلام لكي نركز على صنع الأموال وليس القنابل والأسلحة، وتحسين الحياة الاقتصادية للناس وليس مهاجمة الدول الأخرى»، مؤكداً أن الولايات المتحدة لن تقبل بأن يكون مضيق هرمز ملكاً لأي دولة.
وأشار إلى أن واشنطن تريد اتفاقاً مع إيران لكننا لا نريد اتفاقا بأي ثمن، مشدداً بالقول: «أمريكا تريد أن ينجح هذا الأمر وستفعل كل ما في وسعها».
ولفت إلى أن الولايات المتحدة ستضمن أن أي قرار ضمن الاتفاق مع إيران سيراعي مصالح الحلفاء، موضحاً أن الولايات المتحدة تتطلع دوماً لسلام دائم وحقيقي لا يقوض أمن وازدهار أمريكا أو حلفائها.
وأفصح وزير الخارجية الأمريكي عن أهمية زيارته إلى المنطقة والذي قال إنها تهدف إلى توضيح عدة نقاط، والتأكيد على التحالف مع دول المنطقة، مضيفاً: «نريد صفقة حقيقية يمكن التحقق منها، والالتزام بها».
وجدد روبيو رفض بلاده حصول إيران على نووي، قائلاً: «لن يكون مقبولاً أن تحصل إيران على سلاح نووي هذا هو جوهر ما كنا نفعله. ولن يحدث».
وأشار إلى أن الولايات المتحدة ستظل منفتحة، وتريد أن تنجح الصفقة، وستفعل كل ما في وسعها، في ذلك، وضمان الالتزام بأي صفقة يتم التوصل إليها.
Bahraini Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullatif Al-Zayani revealed the agenda for the joint ministerial meeting between the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and the United States, held in the capital Manama today (Thursday), confirming that it discusses the sovereignty and stability of Syria and Lebanon, expanding the partnership with the United States, and the security of Gulf countries, which he stated cannot be divided.
Al-Zayani said at the opening of the meeting: "The Gulf countries look forward to a new chapter for our region based on sovereignty and respect for the law," welcoming the announcement by the Sultanate of Oman to provide a safe passage for ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
He emphasized the necessity for Iran to fulfill its commitments, indicating that there is a glimmer of hope for the region after the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the U.S. and Iran.
He added: "Iran's attacks were a test and proved the resilience and strength of our institutions and societies," pointing out that the current time is crucial for the region.
For his part, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the United States aims to achieve security and stability in the region and the world, noting that the alliance between the U.S. and Gulf countries has been tested during recent events, saying: "The level of cooperation and friendship between us and the Gulf during difficult times has succeeded and excelled."
Rubio expressed his country's appreciation for the Gulf states, saying: "We value your partnership, and our alliance is not only in the defense sector but also in the economic sector. The United States is committed to this partnership and will ensure that any agreement made with Iran will not conflict with the interests of any of the countries represented here," adding: "You are our partners and allies, and partners do not undermine each other's interests."
He continued: "We are entering a new phase today that we hope will lead to peace so that we can focus on making money, not bombs and weapons, and improving the economic lives of people, not attacking other countries," emphasizing that the United States will not accept that the Strait of Hormuz belongs to any one country.
He pointed out that Washington wants an agreement with Iran, but we do not want an agreement at any cost, stressing: "America wants this matter to succeed and will do everything in its power."
He noted that the United States will ensure that any decision within the agreement with Iran will take into account the interests of allies, explaining that the United States is always looking for a lasting and genuine peace that does not undermine the security and prosperity of America or its allies.
U.S. Secretary of State revealed the importance of his visit to the region, stating that it aims to clarify several points and reaffirm the alliance with the countries in the region, adding: "We want a real deal that can be verified and adhered to."
Rubio reiterated his country's rejection of Iran obtaining nuclear weapons, saying: "It will not be acceptable for Iran to acquire a nuclear weapon; this is the essence of what we have been doing. And it will not happen."
He pointed out that the United States will remain open and wants the deal to succeed, and will do everything in its power to ensure compliance with any agreement reached.
