كشفت وسائل إعلام أمريكية اليوم (الثلاثاء)، عن اجتماع عقده الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب مساء الإثنين مع كباء أعضاء فريقه للأمن القومي.
ونقل موقع «أكسيوس» عن مسؤولين أمريكيين أن الاجتماع تضمن إحاطة حول الخيارات العسكرية، موضحين أن الاجتماع جاء بعد ساعات من إعلان ترمب تعليق الهجمات التي قال إنها كانت مقررة (الثلاثاء).
وذكر الموقع أن ترمب يواصل التأكيد على أن أمام إيران أياماً قليلة فقط لتحقيق اختراق دبلوماسي، ورغم أن ترمب لوّح مراراً خلال فترة وقف إطلاق النار بعمل عسكري من دون تنفيذ ذلك، فإن تلقيه إحاطة حول خطط عسكرية الإثنين، يشير إلى أنه يدرس بجدية استئناف الحرب.
من جهة أخرى، يناقش حلف شمال الأطلسي «الناتو» إمكانية مساعدة السفن على المرور عبر مضيق هرمز إذا لم يعد فتح الممر المائي بحلول أوائل يوليو القادم.
ونقلت وكالة «بلومبيرغ» عن القائد الأعلى للحلف في أوروبا، أليكسوس جرينكويتش قوله إن تنفيذ عمليات في المضيق يبقى قراراً سياسياً، مبيناً أن تعطيل إيران حرية الملاحة في مضيق هرمز يؤثر سلباً على اقتصادات دول الحلف وقدراتها الصناعية العسكرية.
وأشار إلى أن الأمر «يبقى مطروحاً للنقاش على المستوى السياسي بشأن ما الذي قد يستدعي التحرك، ومتى يمكن اتخاذ قرار سياسي بالمضي قدماً».
وكانت وزارة الخارجية الأمريكية قد قالت إن الوزير ماركو روبيو بحث مع الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة أنطونيو غوتيريش اليوم، الجهود الأمريكية الرامية إلى منع إيران من زرع الألغام وفرض رسوم عبور في مضيق هرمز، وهو ما تضمنه قرار مجلس الأمن الدولي بشأن هذه القضية.
وقال المتحدث باسم وزارة الخارجية الأمريكية تومي بيجوت، في بيان: «شدد الوزير على الدعم الواسع الذي تحظى به هذه الجهود من قاعدة عريضة من الدول الأعضاء في الأمم المتحدة».
American media revealed today (Tuesday) that President Donald Trump held a meeting on Monday evening with senior members of his national security team.
The Axios website reported from American officials that the meeting included a briefing on military options, noting that it came just hours after Trump announced the suspension of attacks that he said were planned for (Tuesday).
The site mentioned that Trump continues to emphasize that Iran has only a few days left to achieve a diplomatic breakthrough, and although Trump has repeatedly hinted at military action during the ceasefire without carrying it out, receiving a briefing on military plans on Monday indicates that he is seriously considering resuming the war.
On another note, NATO is discussing the possibility of assisting ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz if the waterway is not reopened by early July.
Bloomberg reported that the NATO Supreme Commander in Europe, Alexis Greenkwich, stated that conducting operations in the strait remains a political decision, pointing out that Iran's disruption of freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz negatively affects the economies of NATO countries and their military industrial capabilities.
He noted that the matter "remains open for political discussion regarding what might warrant action, and when a political decision can be made to proceed."
The U.S. State Department had stated that Secretary Marco Rubio discussed with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres today the American efforts to prevent Iran from planting mines and imposing transit fees in the Strait of Hormuz, which was included in the UN Security Council resolution regarding this issue.
State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott said in a statement: "The Secretary emphasized the broad support that these efforts enjoy from a wide base of UN member states."
