The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Ismail Baqaei, announced that Tehran has not requested to hold any meetings with U.S. officials to resume nuclear talks. Earlier, the U.S. envoy to the Middle East, Steve Hanke, stated that he would meet with Iranian diplomats next week, while U.S. President Donald Trump revealed yesterday (Monday) that Iranian officials had contacted the United States to schedule talks regarding the Iranian nuclear program. Trump told reporters, "We have set a date for talks with Iran, and they want that... They want to talk. He had stated last week that talks would resume soon."

For his part, Iranian President Masoud Bezhakian considered that there is no problem in resuming negotiations with Washington regarding the nuclear program. He said in an interview published (Monday): "We see no problem in re-entering negotiations," adding, "There is one condition: how will we trust the United States again?"

The negotiations that began last April were halted after Israel launched a war on Iran last month. Washington targeted three Iranian nuclear sites during the war between Iran and Israel in early June.
