The joint security campaign in Lahij Governorate today (Saturday) intercepted a boat carrying half a ton of hashish on the coast of Al-Mudharabah and Ras Al-Arah, near Bab al-Mandab. According to military sources, the smuggling elements on board the boat were arrested.

The military sources clarified that after a process of monitoring and tracking, the maritime patrols of the joint security campaign intercepted the boat 15 miles off the coast of Ras Al-Arah, following armed clashes with the smuggling elements on board. It was indicated that the smuggling elements on the boat were arrested after the clashes.

The sources pointed out that the boat was carrying half a ton of hashish, which has been seized, and it will be transferred to the relevant legal authorities along with the arrested smuggling elements to take the necessary legal actions.

The forces of the joint security campaign continue their fight against smuggling and preventing the entry of prohibited items from the coastal strip near Bab al-Mandab, which enjoys the support of the Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, Commander of the Southern Giants Brigades, Major General Abdulrahman Al-Mahrami Abu Zar'a, who always emphasizes the efforts to combat smuggling and enhance the security of the coastal strip.

Last month, the Southern Giants forces in Bab al-Mandab thwarted an attempt to smuggle archaeological pieces that were on their way to the Horn of Africa.

The Southern Giants forces announced the arrest of the smugglers and the seizure of 24 archaeological pieces, confirming that the smugglers concealed the artifacts in a complex camouflage method inside one of the boxes, which was located among dozens of similar boxes containing car spare parts in their vehicle, but the checkpoint personnel managed to discover and seize it.
