The Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Wasel, affirmed that the Strait of Hormuz is one of the most important vital maritime passages for international trade and global energy security.

Al-Wasel stated during the joint press conference between the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and the United States regarding the presentation of a draft resolution on freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz that any threat to freedom of navigation in the strait directly impacts the stability of global markets and international supply chains, warning of the humanitarian and economic repercussions resulting from the disruption of the flow of essential goods, medical supplies, and humanitarian aid.

He emphasized the importance of protecting maritime navigation security and ensuring the safe and continuous flow of international trade in accordance with international law, calling for coordinated international action to de-escalate tensions and prevent the worsening of the crisis, which contributes to maintaining regional and international security and stability.

He affirmed the importance of enhancing international cooperation to protect vital maritime passages and uphold international peace and security.
