وقع انفجار في منطقة تخزين ذخيرة داخل قاعدة كادينا الجوية التابعة للجيش الأمريكي في أوكيناوا، جنوب اليابان، يوم الاثنين، وسط أنباء عن عدد غير معروف من الإصابات، وفقاً لمسؤول في قرية يوميتان.
وبينت هيئة الإذاعة والتلفزيون اليابانية (NHK)، أن المنشأة تابعة لقوات الدفاع الذاتي اليابانية، وكانت تُستخدم لتخزين ذخيرة غير منفجرة مؤقتاً.
وتعتبر قاعدة كادينا الجوية التابعة للولايات المتحدة من القواعد العسكرية التي تحتضن أحدث المقاتلات الأمريكية المتطورة وكانت نقطة انطلاق للعديد من المناورات العسكرية المتعددة الجنسيات في شمال المحيط الهادئ.

وتعتبر كادينا أكبر قاعدة جوية أمريكية خارج الولايات المتحدة، وتبلغ مساحتها حوالى ألفي هكتار، ولها مدرجان بطول حوالى 3.7 آلاف متر.
An explosion occurred in an ammunition storage area within the Kadena Air Base of the U.S. military in Okinawa, southern Japan, on Monday, amid reports of an unknown number of injuries, according to an official in the village of Yomitan.
The Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK) reported that the facility is operated by the Japan Self-Defense Forces and was being used to temporarily store unexploded ammunition.
Kadena Air Base is one of the military bases that hosts the latest advanced U.S. fighter jets and has been a launch point for numerous multinational military exercises in the North Pacific.
In another incident that occurred in June 2020, a fire broke out in a hazardous materials warehouse at Kadena Base.
Kadena is considered the largest U.S. air base outside the United States, covering an area of about 2,000 hectares, and has two runways approximately 3,700 meters long.
