The Consul General of the Russian Federation in Jeddah, Yusuf Abakarov, revealed a significant progress in the discussions regarding the exemption of Saudis from the visa requirement to enter Russia, suggesting that the final procedures are likely to be completed in the coming months, which will enhance travel between the two countries and support the growing tourism cooperation.
Abakarov pointed out that obtaining a Russian visa has become easier today through an electronic platform where the application process takes no more than 20 minutes, while the visa is issued within just 3 to 4 days.
He explained that the number of Saudi tourists to Russia is witnessing rapid growth, rising from about 15,000 visitors in 2023 to 25,000 in 2024, noting that forecasts aim for a significant leap to around 110,000 Saudi tourists during the current year, driven by the expansion of air transport options and entry facilitation.
These statements came during the announcement event of Flynas launching a new air route connecting Jeddah and Moscow starting from December 23, in collaboration with the Saudi Tourism Authority and the Air Connectivity Program, in a move that aims to enhance tourism openness and facilitate access to Russian destinations.
The event showcased the "Visit Russia" initiative launched by tourism unions in Moscow, which is a smart platform that relies on artificial intelligence solutions to provide a comprehensive travel experience for Saudi and Gulf tourists, including interactive maps, accommodation and hospitality options, and tourism reward programs for various Russian cities.
