The team from the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center visited the beneficiaries of the agricultural farm rehabilitation project of the Ma'noofa Women's Agricultural Association in the Socotra Archipelago Governorate in the Republic of Yemen, which was implemented last year with support from the center, in collaboration with the World Food Programme (WFP), and the implementing partner, the Humanitarian Aid and Development Organization (HAD).
The team reviewed the reality of agricultural activity and local production, the level of benefit from the implemented interventions, and their contribution to the sustainability of production and improving the livelihoods of the beneficiaries.
They listened to an explanation from representatives of the implementing partner about the components of the project, which included land rehabilitation, plowing the farm, digging a well, and constructing a water tank with a capacity of 30 cubic meters, installing a solar-powered pumping system, and connecting the farm to a drip irrigation network; all of which contribute to facilitating irrigation operations and reducing the effort expended in agricultural production.
The project also included the implementation of advisory and agricultural programs, training in agricultural product marketing, along with continuous follow-up and providing incentives to the beneficiaries, with the aim of developing their skills and enhancing their capabilities to manage agricultural activities and benefit from their returns.
The team reviewed the crops produced from vegetables and fruits, and the mechanisms for managing the farm and marketing its products, benefiting (115) women from the project, which contributed to creating a suitable environment for agricultural production and providing technical components that help sustain and develop agricultural activities.
The beneficiaries indicated the improvement witnessed in the farm following the implementation of the project, particularly in land rehabilitation and facilitating farming and irrigation operations, as well as acquiring new knowledge and skills in cultivating various types of crops, which enhances opportunities for increasing production and improving the benefits from and marketing of the products.
They expressed their sincere thanks and appreciation to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, for its generous support that contributed to improving their livelihoods and enhancing their food security.
This comes as part of the relief efforts provided by the Kingdom through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, to support the resilience of local communities and empower women to participate in agricultural activities and economic production in Yemen.
