The average price of diesel in the United States has risen to its highest level since last April (five months ago), amid the ongoing war between the United States and Iran and the disruption of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
The average price of diesel across the United States reached $5.687 per gallon today, the highest since April, according to data from the American Automobile Association.
Diesel prices have been supported this year by the continued conflict in the Middle East, along with the Russian-Ukrainian war, as Moscow has reduced its exports due to attacks on refineries and ports.
Earlier this week, U.S. President Donald Trump pressured oil refineries in a closed meeting to increase domestic production of diesel and gasoline, in an effort to lower prices ahead of the midterm elections in November, according to Bloomberg.
Rising Concerns
Oil prices rose by 1% in early trading today, continuing the jump from the previous session, amid rising concerns over supply disruptions after the United States and Iran exchanged strikes overnight, which dashed hopes for a quick easing of tensions in the Middle East.
Brent crude futures increased by 91 cents, or 0.95%, to $95.55 per barrel, trading near its highest levels in nearly six weeks, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures rose by 53 cents, or 0.6%, to $90.66.
Both contracts jumped by more than four dollars yesterday, marking the largest gain for Brent since July 24 and for West Texas Intermediate since July 23.
