اعترف الفنان السوري باسل خياط بتفكيره في اعتزال الفن بشكل نهائي في وقت مبكر، مؤكدًا أنه يفضل إنهاء مشواره وهو لا يزال يحظى بمحبة الجمهور ورغبته في مشاهدته، بدلًا من الاستمرار حتى يتراجع حضوره أو يتغير موقعه لدى المتابعين.
وقال باسل خياط خلال لقاء إعلامي: «أنا ناوي أعتزل مبكرًا على قاعدة أن أطلع من الضوء والناس بدها إياك»، موضحًا أن قراره لا يرتبط بفقدانه الثقة في الجمهور، وإنما برغبته في الابتعاد عن أجواء الخلافات والمشكلات والتفرغ لأمور أخرى في حياته.
وأضاف: «بدي فضي راسي لشي تاني، ضاق خلقي وما عندي رغبة بالخلافات والمشاكل»، مشيرًا إلى أنه يمتلك ثقة كبيرة في إمكانياته، ولا يخشى المنافسة مع أي فنان، خصوصا أنه عمل على تطوير نفسه ذهنيًا وجسديًا، ويعرف جيدًا كيفية التعامل مع نقاط ضعفه.
أزمة مالية بعد مغادرة سورية
وتطرق باسل خياط إلى مرحلة صعبة من حياته عقب مغادرته سورية في السنوات الأولى للأحداث، كاشفًا أن أوضاعه المادية تدهورت بشكل كبير، ووصل إلى فترة لم يكن قادرًا خلالها على العمل.
وأوضح أن زوجته ناهد زيدان تحملت مسؤولية المنزل في تلك الفترة، واضطرت إلى العمل للإنفاق على الأسرة، قائلًا: «في فترة من حياتي كنت غير قادر أبدًا على الشغل، وماديًا كنت تقريبًا صفر، ناهد نزلت اشتغلت، هي اللي شالت البيت».
تفاصيل مؤثرة عن مغادرة سورية
واستعاد الفنان السوري بعض التفاصيل التي عاشها خلال تلك الفترة، موضحًا أنه واجه اتهامات بالخيانة داخل سورية، بالتزامن مع حالة من العجز والارتباك نتيجة الظروف التي أحاطت به آنذاك.
كما تحدث عن واقعة تعرضه لرمي الحليب عليه أثناء تصوير أحد أعماله، موضحًا أنه حاول الاستمرار في العمل باعتباره وسيلة للابتعاد عن الأحداث، لكنه لم يتمكن من فصل نفسه عن الواقع، خصوصا مع سقوط ضحايا في سوريا.
وأشار إلى أن تلك الأجواء أثرت عليه بصورة كبيرة، قبل أن يتخذ قرار مغادرة البلاد برفقة زوجته وابنه شمس، ليبدأ بعدها مرحلة جديدة من حياته بعيدًا عن سورية.

Basel Khayat said during a media interview: "I intend to retire early on the basis that I want to leave the spotlight while people still want you," explaining that his decision is not related to losing confidence in the audience, but rather his desire to distance himself from conflicts and problems and to focus on other matters in his life.
He added: "I want to clear my mind for something else; I am fed up and have no desire for conflicts and problems," pointing out that he has great confidence in his abilities and does not fear competition with any artist, especially since he has worked on developing himself mentally and physically, and he knows well how to deal with his weaknesses.
Financial Crisis After Leaving Syria
Basel Khayat touched on a difficult phase of his life after leaving Syria in the early years of the events, revealing that his financial situation deteriorated significantly, and there was a time when he was unable to work.
He explained that his wife, Nahid Zidan, took on the responsibility of the household during that period and had to work to support the family, saying: "At one point in my life, I was completely unable to work, and financially I was almost at zero; Nahid went out to work; she was the one who supported the household."
Emotional Details About Leaving Syria
The Syrian artist recalled some details he experienced during that period, explaining that he faced accusations of betrayal within Syria, coinciding with a state of helplessness and confusion due to the circumstances surrounding him at that time.
He also talked about an incident where he was splashed with milk while filming one of his works, explaining that he tried to continue working as a means to distance himself from the events, but he could not separate himself from reality, especially with the casualties in Syria.
He noted that those circumstances affected him greatly before he made the decision to leave the country with his wife and son Shams, thus beginning a new phase of his life away from Syria.
