لقيت امرأة حتفها وأُصيب رجل بجروح، إثر هجوم طعن عشوائي وقع في ميدان «تايمز سكوير» وسط مدينة نيويورك، قبل أن تطلق الشرطة النار على المشتبه بها وترديها قتيلة.
وقالت شرطة نيويورك إن امرأة تبلغ من العمر 49 عاماً، من حي كوينز، هاجمت شخصين بسكينين قرب تقاطع الجادة السابعة والشارع 42 في منطقة «تايمز سكوير»، أمس (الإثنين).
وأسفر الهجوم عن مقتل امرأة تبلغ من العمر 32 عاماً، فيما أُصيب رجل يبلغ من العمر 68 عاماً ونُقل إلى المستشفى لتلقي العلاج.
وبحسب الشرطة، توجهت المشتبه بها عقب الهجوم نحو موقع تابع لشرطة نيويورك في المنطقة، وهي تحمل سكينين، فيما طالبها رجال الأمن مراراً بإلقاء السلاح.

وحاول أفراد الشرطة السيطرة عليها باستخدام مسدس صاعق، إلا أن المحاولة لم تنجح، قبل أن تواصل تقدمها باتجاههم وهي مسلحة، ما دفع اثنين من رجال الشرطة إلى إطلاق النار عليها. ونُقلت إلى المستشفى، حيث أُعلنت وفاتها.
وأفادت السلطات بأن الهجوم يبدو عشوائياً، مؤكدة عدم وجود مؤشرات في الوقت الراهن على ارتباطه بعمل إرهابي.
وأوضحت شرطة نيويورك أن المشتبه بها سبق أن كانت لديها تعاملات مع الشرطة مرتبطة بحالتها النفسية خلال 2018 و2019، فيما لم يكن لديها سجل سابق من الاعتقالات.
وفرضت الشرطة طوقاً أمنياً حول موقع الحادث، وبدأت التحقيق في ملابساته ودوافعه، فيما لم تُعلن هوية الضحيتين حتى الآن.

The New York Police clarified that the suspect had previous interactions with the police related to her mental health in 2018 and 2019, but she did not have a prior arrest record.
