The Algerian actress Hana Mansour protested the appearance of her image in an article published in the French magazine (Le Point) by the French-Algerian writer Kamel Daoud, confirming that she was not consulted and did not give any permission for her image to be used in the published material.
Mansour stated through her social media accounts: "The magazine used her personal image without her knowledge," urging her followers to engage with the issue and express their rejection of this usage, considering that her appearance in a context unrelated to her infringes on her right to control her image.
The incident dates back to the publication of Mansour's image alongside materials accompanying an article by Kamel Daoud that addresses issues related to Algeria, identity, memory, and the relationship between Algeria and France, despite there being no connection between her and the content of the article or its author.
The actress confirmed that she did not receive any request from the magazine prior to publication, and that her appearance alongside material unrelated to her could imply a false connection. She demanded that her image be removed immediately from all of the magazine's platforms, emphasizing that its use in a context she did not choose constitutes an infringement of her rights regarding her image. She also announced that she reserves the right to take legal action that she deems appropriate to protect her rights.
The magazine and the writer are facing criticism in light of the incident, amid calls to respect personal rights and images in published media materials.
