Through a clear case of being caught red-handed inside a polling station, and a bag of ballot papers that came and went unnoticed by everyone, this is how the scandal erupted in the city of Tangier. The Moroccan public prosecutor's office arrested five suspects, including heads of polling stations and their deputies, after one of them was caught transporting original ballot papers secretly to alter the election results.
The scheme was not just about hiding a box, but a well-orchestrated scenario among those overseeing the electoral process themselves:
Smuggling: The deputy head of the polling station withdrew the ballot papers with the help of the head of the station, placed them in a personal bag, and then sneaked them out of the school premises.
Forgery and passing: The papers were arranged outside the center, then returned in coordination with the other suspects to be reintroduced and deposited in the polling stations.
The technical trap: The judicial expertise dismantled the ruse, as it became clear that the type of ink used to mark the seized papers was completely different from the ink officially used inside the polling stations.
In light of the evidence of being caught red-handed and the difference in ink type, the public prosecutor's office referred the suspects to the investigating judge to request their provisional detention. However, the charges did not stop at administrative violations, but escalated to serious felonies including violating the integrity of the election and forgery, with investigations continuing to track down any additional parties involved in directing this network.
