تحوّل سباق السيارات في بطولة الصين للسيارات الرياضية إلى مشهد بطولي استثنائي، بعدما أنقذ السائق الهولندي لوك هارتوخ منافسه البريطاني أولي ميلروي من وسط النيران عقب حادث مروّع على حلبة شنغهاي الدولية. فقد اصطدمت سيارة ميلروي بقوة خلال أحد المنعطفات، قبل أن تنحرف عن المسار وتشتعل بالكامل، بينما تصاعدت ألسنة اللهب والدخان في لحظات أثارت الذعر بين المتابعين.
وبينما كانت النيران تحاصر السائق البريطاني داخل سيارته، اندفع هارتوخ نحو الحطام دون تردد، متخليًا عن فرصه في مواصلة السباق، وفكّ حزام الأمان وقفز من سيارته محاولًا الوصول إلى ميلروي المحاصر داخل كرة من اللهب. وأظهرت كاميرات السيارة لحظة محاولاته اليائسة لفتح باب السيارة المشتعلة، قبل أن يركض بحثًا عن طفاية حريق للسيطرة على النيران.
وبعد وصول فرق الإطفاء، تعاون هارتوخ مع طاقم الحلبة لإبعاد ميلروي عن السيارة، ليظهر السائقان لاحقًا جالسين قرب الجدار في مشهد يعكس حجم الخطر الذي نجا منه ميلروي بأعجوبة.
وفي المستشفى، نشر ميلروي صورة له موجّهًا رسالة مؤثرة إلى هارتوخ، قال فيها: «ما زلت على قيد الحياة بفضل رجل واحد فقط... لوك هارتوخ خاطر بحياته لإنقاذي بينما لم يكن هناك أي مراقبين أو فرق إطفاء لحظة الحادث».
القصة التي وُصفت بأنها «بطولة خارقة» أشعلت مواقع التواصل، واعتُبرت واحدة من أكثر اللحظات الإنسانية تأثيرًا في عالم رياضة السيارات خلال السنوات الأخيرة.
The car race in the China Sports Car Championship turned into an extraordinary heroic scene when Dutch driver Luke Hartog rescued his British rival, Oli Milroy, from the midst of flames following a horrific accident at the Shanghai International Circuit. Milroy's car collided violently during one of the turns, before veering off the track and catching fire completely, as flames and smoke billowed in moments that sparked panic among spectators.
As the fire surrounded the British driver inside his car, Hartog rushed towards the wreckage without hesitation, abandoning his chances of continuing the race. He unbuckled his seatbelt and jumped from his car, trying to reach Milroy, who was trapped inside a ball of fire. The car's cameras captured the moment of his desperate attempts to open the door of the burning vehicle, before he ran off in search of a fire extinguisher to control the flames.
After the fire crews arrived, Hartog collaborated with the track staff to pull Milroy away from the car, and the two drivers were later seen sitting near the wall in a scene that reflected the magnitude of the danger Milroy miraculously escaped.
In the hospital, Milroy posted a picture of himself, directing an emotional message to Hartog, saying: "I am still alive thanks to just one man... Luke Hartog risked his life to save me when there were no marshals or fire crews at the moment of the accident."
The story, described as a "superhero act," ignited social media and was considered one of the most impactful human moments in the world of motorsport in recent years.
