The Egyptian security forces arrested businessman Mazen Al-Qutait, owner of one of the companies, to enforce a court ruling issued against him in a case where he was accused of fraud and embezzling funds exceeding 400 million Egyptian pounds.
The arrest of Al-Qutait came after the Mokattam Court, convened at the South Cairo Court, upheld his three-year prison sentence, following the rejection of the appeal he filed against the ruling issued against him in the case.
The details of the case date back to complaints filed by several citizens, who accused Al-Qutait and others of embezzling their money using fraudulent methods. According to reports cited by the victims' defense, the case documents included accusations of creating fictitious entities and misleading citizens about the existence of investment opportunities in exchange for monthly returns.
According to the defense of several victims, the victims were convinced of the existence of ongoing investment activities and projects before their money was taken under the pretext of operating and investing it to generate profits for them.
The Mokattam Misdemeanor Court had sentenced Al-Qutait in June 2025 to three years in prison with hard labor in case number 4343 for the year 2025, based on accusations related to embezzling more than 400 million pounds from citizens.
Al-Qutait filed an appeal against the ruling, and his defense took legal measures to challenge it, before the court rejected the request to dismiss the court panel and continued to consider the appeal, ultimately upholding the prison sentence.
Lawyer Ihab Al-Mansouri, representing several victims, stated that a large number of citizens had filed complaints and reports against the accused, noting that the Public Prosecution presented documents and evidence in the case, considering that the upholding of the ruling represents a step towards the victims obtaining their rights.
The incidents related to Al-Qutait are not only linked to the current case, as his name has previously appeared in other judicial matters dating back to previous years.
In 2006, Al-Qutait and his brother were arrested on charges related to offering bribes to overlook violations associated with the operations of a cleaning company, according to reports at the time.
In another incident in 2015, the Public Funds Prosecution ordered Al-Qutait to be detained pending investigations into charges of extortion, threats, and forgery of receipts, in a case linked to an official in the Cairo Cleaning Authority.
These previous incidents come as part of the judicial record associated with the businessman over the years, but the criminal responsibility in each case remains tied to the conclusions of the investigations and the judicial rulings issued regarding them.
