شهدت المنطقة الجبلية الوعرة بمدينة سفاجا المصرية حادثة مأساوية أعادت إلى الأذهان مأساة الصعيد، حيث تحولت رحلة البحث عن «المعدن الأصفر» إلى ساحة حرب انتهت بمقتل 8 أشخاص وإصابة آخر، إثر نزاع مسلح على «عرق ذهب».
بدأت الواقعة داخل إحدى المغارات النائية في حضن صحراء مصر الشرقية، حيث تجمعت مجموعات من المنقبين غير الشرعيين. وبحسب التحريات، نشب خلاف حاد حول أحقية السيطرة على موقع للتنقيب يعتقد بمواصفاته أنه كنز ثمين. ولم يتوقف النزاع عند المشادات، بل تطور سريعاً حين استل أحد المتواجدين بندقية آلية، فاتحاً النار بشكل عشوائي على زملائه.
حصيلة ثقيلة ومطاردة جبلية
- الضحايا: أسفر الهجوم عن مقتل 8 أشخاص في الحال نتيجة إصابات مباشرة بطلقات نارية، فيما نجا شخص واحد بأعجوبة رغم إصابته.
- الهروب: استغل المتهم سيارة دفع رباعي وخبرته بطرق الجبل للفرار من مسرح الجريمة، ظناً منه أن الطبيعة الجغرافية ستحميه من الملاحقة.
لكن لم تمر ساعات حتى نجحت الأجهزة الأمنية بمديرية أمن البحر الأحمر، بالتنسيق مع قطاع الأمن العام، في محاصرة الدروب الجبلية. ومن خلال الأكمنة الثابتة والمتحركة، تم ضبط المتهم وبحوزته السلاح المستخدم (بندقية آلية)، والسيارة المستخدمة في الهروب، وكميات من المواد التي تم التنقيب عنها.
وأمام جهات التحقيق، أدلى المتهم باعترافات تفصيلية، زاعماً أن الشيطان أغواه بعد صراع مرير مع الضحايا على تقسيم الغنائم وأولوية الحفر، مشيراً إلى أن ضغط العمل الشاق في الجبل والتوتر الذي يصاحب اكتشاف الذهب جعل الأمور تخرج عن السيطرة في لحظات.
إن ما حدث في سفاجا ومن قبلها الصعيد ليس مجرد جرائم قتل عادية، بل هو انعكاس للوجه المظلم لـ «حمى الذهب»، حيث يُستبدل العقل بالطمع، وتُزهق الأرواح في سبيل سراب قد لا يتحقق، تاركةً خلفها عائلات مفجوعة ودرساً قاسياً في خطورة الخروج عن القانون تحت بريق المال.

The incident began inside one of the remote caves nestled in the Eastern Desert of Egypt, where groups of illegal prospectors had gathered. According to investigations, a heated dispute erupted over the right to control a mining site believed to be a valuable treasure based on its specifications. The conflict did not stop at verbal exchanges; it quickly escalated when one of those present pulled out an automatic rifle and opened fire indiscriminately on his companions.
Heavy Toll and Mountain Chase
- Victims: The attack resulted in the immediate death of 8 people due to direct gunshot wounds, while one person miraculously survived despite being injured.
- Escape: The suspect used a four-wheel-drive vehicle and his knowledge of the mountain paths to flee the crime scene, believing that the geographical nature would protect him from pursuit.
However, within hours, the security forces of the Red Sea Security Directorate, in coordination with the Public Security Sector, succeeded in surrounding the mountain paths. Through fixed and mobile checkpoints, the suspect was apprehended with the weapon used (an automatic rifle), the vehicle used in the escape, and quantities of the materials that had been mined.
Before the investigative authorities, the suspect provided detailed confessions, claiming that the devil had tempted him after a bitter struggle with the victims over the division of spoils and priority in digging, noting that the pressure of hard work in the mountains and the tension accompanying the discovery of gold caused things to spiral out of control in moments.
What happened in Safaga and previously in Upper Egypt is not merely ordinary murder crimes; it reflects the dark side of the "gold rush," where greed replaces reason, and lives are lost in pursuit of an illusion that may never be realized, leaving behind grieving families and a harsh lesson on the dangers of stepping outside the law under the glitter of money.
