في ظل موجة إنفلونزا وصفتها هيئة الخدمات الصحية البريطانية (NHS) بـ«غير المسبوقة»، شاركت أم بريطانية قصتها المؤلمة مع المرض الذي أصابها وابنتها، محذرة الجميع من خطورته ومؤكدة أنه «ليس مزحة على الإطلاق».
وكتبت الأم على موقع «Reddit»: «هذه الإنفلونزا المنتشرة حالياً مريعة حقاً! أصبت أنا وابنتي بها، وأقسم أنها فظيعة، اغسلوا أيديكم، ارتدوا الكمامات، افعلوا كل ما بوسعكم لتجنبها!».
أعراض الإنفلونزا المنتشرة
وبحسب موقع «إكسبريس» وصفت الأم الأعراض الخمسة الرئيسية، التي عانت منها: حمى مرتفعة تصل إلى 40 درجة مئوية أو أكثر، صداع حاد يشبه «الانشقاق»، قيء كميات كبيرة من البلغم، آلام شديدة في العضلات والعظام، وعدم القدرة على تناول أي طعام سوى المصاصات الثلجية.
وأوضحت الأم أنها لم تتمكن من النظر إلى الضوء أو الخروج من السرير، مما دفعها إلى الخوف الكافي لزيارة المستشفى.
وبدأت رحلتها بالاتصال بخدمة الطوارئ، التي أحالتها إلى الطبيب العام، وهناك ارتدت نظارات شمسية وغطت عينيها بيدها طوال الوقت، وكانت غير قادرة على البقاء مستيقظة.
وأكدت أن الممرضة أخبرتها أن نبضها مرتفع جداً، وحمّاها فوق 40 درجة، وأن حساسيتها الشديدة للضوء (رهاب الضوء) أثارت قلقاً كبيراً.
وأكدت أن القلق الأولي كان حول احتمال الإصابة بالتهاب السحايا بسبب ارتفاع النبض والحمى والحساسية للضوء.
أزمة صحية في بريطانيا
يأتي هذا التحذير وسط أزمة صحية حادة في المملكة المتحدة، إذ أظهرت بيانات NHS حتى 11 ديسمبر أن متوسط عدد المرضى بالإنفلونزا في المستشفيات بلغ 2660 مريضاً يومياً الأسبوع الماضي – وهو أعلى رقم مسجل لهذا الوقت من العام، بزيادة 55% عن الأسبوع السابق.
ووصفت السلطات الصحية هذه الموجة بـ«الإنفلونزا الخارقة» (super flu)، مدفوعة بسلالة H3N2 المتحورة، مع عدم ظهور ذروة حتى الآن.
من جانبه، أعرب المدير الطبي للرعاية الطارئة البروفيسور جوليان ريدهيد، عن قلقه العميق: «هذه الأرقام تؤكد مخاوفنا الأعمق، نحن نواجه موجة إنفلونزا غير مسبوقة هذا الشتاء، مع حالات مرتفعة بشكل مذهل لهذا الوقت، ولا ذروة في الأفق».
وأضاف أن تزامن هذه الموجة مع إضراب الأطباء المقيمين قد يدفع الطاقم الطبي إلى حافة الانهيار.
وفي مواجهة هذه الأزمة، دعت NHS الأشخاص المؤهلين إلى تلقي لقاح الإنفلونزا فوراً للحماية، خصوصاً مع اقتراب عيد الميلاد.
Amid an influenza wave described by the British Health Services (NHS) as "unprecedented," a British mother shared her painful story about the illness that affected her and her daughter, warning everyone about its dangers and emphasizing that it is "not a joke at all."
The mother wrote on Reddit: "This flu going around right now is really terrible! My daughter and I caught it, and I swear it’s awful, wash your hands, wear masks, do everything you can to avoid it!"
Symptoms of the Widespread Flu
According to the Express website, the mother described the five main symptoms she suffered from: a high fever reaching 40 degrees Celsius or more, a severe headache that felt like "splitting," vomiting large amounts of phlegm, severe muscle and bone pain, and an inability to eat anything other than ice pops.
The mother explained that she could not look at light or get out of bed, which scared her enough to visit the hospital.
Her journey began with a call to the emergency service, which referred her to the general practitioner. There, she wore sunglasses and covered her eyes with her hand the entire time, and she was unable to stay awake.
She confirmed that the nurse told her that her pulse was very high, her fever was above 40 degrees, and her extreme sensitivity to light (photophobia) raised significant concern.
She stated that the initial worry was about the possibility of meningitis due to the high pulse, fever, and light sensitivity.
Health Crisis in Britain
This warning comes amid a severe health crisis in the United Kingdom, as NHS data showed that as of December 11, the average number of flu patients in hospitals reached 2,660 daily last week – the highest recorded number for this time of year, an increase of 55% from the previous week.
Health authorities have described this wave as a "super flu," driven by the mutated H3N2 strain, with no peak in sight yet.
For his part, the medical director of emergency care, Professor Julian Redhead, expressed his deep concern: "These numbers confirm our deepest fears, we are facing an unprecedented flu wave this winter, with remarkably high cases for this time, and no peak in sight."
He added that the coincidence of this wave with the strike of resident doctors could push the medical staff to the brink of collapse.
In the face of this crisis, the NHS has urged eligible individuals to get the flu vaccine immediately for protection, especially with Christmas approaching.
