كادت طائرة تابعة لشركة «جيت بلو» الأمريكية تتعرض لتصادم جوي مع طائرة للتزود بالوقود تابعة للقوات الجوية الأمريكية، أثناء صعودها بعد الإقلاع من جزيرة كوراساو في البحر الكاريبي، في حادثة وُصفت بالخطيرة.
وأفاد الطيار، وفق تسجيلات لمراقبة الحركة الجوية، بأنه اضطر إلى إلغاء الصعود فور رصده حركة جوية أمامه على مسافة نحو خمسة أميال، ليتبيّن لاحقاً أنها طائرة عسكرية تحلّق على الارتفاع نفسه، ما استدعى اتخاذ مناورة فورية لتفادي الاصطدام.
وقال الطيار لمراقب الحركة الجوية: «كاد يحدث تصادم في الجو لقد عبروا مباشرة في مسار طيراننا ولم يكونوا قد فعّلوا جهاز الإرسال والاستقبال، وهذا أمر خطير»، مشيراً إلى أن الطائرة العسكرية واصلت لاحقاً تحليقها باتجاه المجال الجوي الفنزويلي.
وأكد مراقب الحركة الجوية أنه لم يتمكن من رصد الطائرة العسكرية على شاشاته بسبب تعطيل جهاز الإرسال الخاص بها.
فتح تحقيق رسمي
من جهته، قال المتحدث باسم شركة «جيت بلو»، ديريك دومبروفسكي، إن الشركة أبلغت السلطات الفيدرالية الأمريكية بالحادث، مؤكداً استعدادها للتعاون الكامل مع أي تحقيق. وأضاف أن طاقم الرحلة مدرّب على التعامل مع الحالات الطارئة واتباع إجراءات السلامة المعتمدة.
وأوضح أن الحادث وقع أثناء رحلة «جيت بلو» رقم 1112 المتجهة من كوراساو إلى مطار جون إف. كينيدي في نيويورك.
مراجعة عسكرية وتحذيرات جوية
بدورها، أعلنت القيادة الجنوبية الأمريكية أنها على علم بالتقارير المتعلقة بعمليات الطائرات العسكرية في منطقة البحر الكاريبي، وأنها تجري حالياً مراجعة داخلية للوقوف على ملابسات الحادث.
ويأتي هذا التطور في وقت تكثّف الولايات المتحدة عملياتها الجوية لمكافحة تهريب المخدرات في منطقة الكاريبي، وسط تحذيرات سابقة من إدارة الطيران الفيدرالية الأمريكية بشأن الأوضاع الأمنية المتدهورة في المجال الجوي الفنزويلي.
An American "JetBlue" airline plane nearly collided in mid-air with a refueling aircraft belonging to the U.S. Air Force while ascending after taking off from the island of Curaçao in the Caribbean, in an incident described as serious.
The pilot reported, according to air traffic control recordings, that he had to abort the ascent upon spotting air traffic ahead of him at a distance of about five miles, later revealing that it was a military aircraft flying at the same altitude, which necessitated an immediate maneuver to avoid a collision.
The pilot told the air traffic controller: "A mid-air collision nearly occurred; they crossed directly into our flight path and had not activated their transponder, which is dangerous," noting that the military aircraft later continued its flight towards Venezuelan airspace.
The air traffic controller confirmed that he was unable to detect the military aircraft on his screens due to its transponder being turned off.
An Official Investigation Opened
For his part, JetBlue spokesperson Derek Dombrowski stated that the company informed U.S. federal authorities about the incident, confirming its full readiness to cooperate with any investigation. He added that the flight crew is trained to handle emergency situations and follow established safety procedures.
He clarified that the incident occurred during JetBlue flight number 1112 heading from Curaçao to John F. Kennedy Airport in New York.
Military Review and Air Warnings
For its part, U.S. Southern Command announced that it is aware of reports regarding military aircraft operations in the Caribbean region and is currently conducting an internal review to understand the circumstances of the incident.
This development comes at a time when the United States is intensifying its air operations to combat drug trafficking in the Caribbean region, amid previous warnings from the Federal Aviation Administration regarding deteriorating security conditions in Venezuelan airspace.
