The main earthquake was recorded at 07:45 AM Istanbul time, at a depth of 10 kilometers, with its epicenter located about 15 kilometers southwest of the island of Avşa in the Sea of Marmara, according to the Turkish Seismic Network (AFAD).
Residents in Asian neighborhoods of Istanbul such as Kadıköy and Üsküdar, as well as in European areas like Beyoğlu and Pera, felt the strong tremors, prompting thousands to take to the streets and public parks in a state of high tension.
