في تطور داخلي هزّ الولايات المتحدة، أُلقي القبض على فانس بويلتر، المشتبه به في قتل رئيسة مجلس النواب الديمقراطية السابقة بولاية مينيسوتا، ميليسا هورتمان، وزوجها مارك، في منزلهما بضواحي مينيابوليس الشمالية صباح السبت.
وحسب صحيفة «الغارديان» أعلن حاكم ولاية مينيسوتا، تيم والز، في مؤتمر صحفي، القبض على فانس بويلتر (57 عاماً)، المشتبه به في الهجوم المسلح الذي استهدف نائبين في الولاية وزوجيهما يوم 14 يونيو، ما أسفر عن مقتل النائبة الديمقراطية ميليسا هورتمان وزوجها مارك، وإصابة السيناتور جون هوفمان وزوجته إيفيت بجروح خطيرة.
تتزامن هذه الأحداث المأساوية مع تصاعد التوترات السياسية في الولايات المتحدة، حيث وقعت الجريمة المروعة صباح السبت الماضي.
واقتحم بويلتر، مرتدياً زياً يشبه زي الشرطة الرسمي، منزل النائبة ميليسا هورتمان في ضواحي مينيابوليس الشمالية، وأطلق النار عليها وزوجها مارك، ما أدى إلى مقتلهما على الفور. بعد ساعات، هاجم بويلتر منزل السيناتور جون هوفمان، الواقع على بعد 15 كيلومتراً، وأصاب هوفمان وزوجته إيفيت بجروح بالغة.
وفقاً للشكوى الجنائية التي كُشف عنها مساء الأحد، وُجهت إلى بويلتر تهمتان بالقتل من الدرجة الثانية وتهمتان بمحاولة القتل من الدرجة الثانية.
تم القبض عليه مساء الأحد في منطقة ريفية بمقاطعة سيبلي، جنوب غرب مينيابوليس، بعد مطاردة استمرت يومين.
وعُثر بحوزته على سلاح ناري، وأفادت الشرطة أنه فرّ سيراً على قدميه بعد استجابة الشرطة لإطلاق النار في منزل هورتمان.
وقال حاكم الولاية تيم والز: لقد غيّرت أفعال رجل واحد لا يمكن تصورها مسار ولاية مينيسوتا، وأضاف أن التحقيقات جارية لكشف دوافع الهجوم، الذي أثار صدمة في الولاية.
كان مكتب التحقيقات الفيدرالي (FBI) قد أعلن عن مكافأة تصل إلى 50 ألف دولار لمن يدلي بمعلومات تؤدي إلى اعتقال بويلتر، مع توزيع صورة له يرتدي قبعة رعاة البقر يوم الهجوم.
وعُثر على سيارة يُعتقد أن بويلتر استخدمها بالقرب من منزله في غرين آيل، على بعد ساعة غرب مينيابوليس، تحتوي على أدلة متعلقة بالجريمة.
وأفاد درو إيفانز، مدير مكتب التحقيقات الجنائية، أن الشرطة أجرت مقابلات مع زوجة بويلتر وأفراد عائلته، الذين تعاونوا مع التحقيق ولم يتم احتجازهم.
في بيان نشرته السيناتور إيمي كلوبوشار عبر وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي، عبّرت إيفيت هوفمان عن امتنانها للدعم الجماهيري، قائلة: جون يخضع لعمليات جراحية متعددة ويقترب من التعافي، أصيب بـ9 رصاصات، وأنا بـ8، ونحن محظوظون جداً ببقائنا على قيد الحياة. نحن مدمرون بفقدان ميليسا ومارك.

According to the Guardian, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz announced at a press conference the arrest of Vance Boelter (57 years old), the suspect in the armed attack that targeted two state representatives and their spouses on June 14, resulting in the death of Democratic Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark, and seriously injuring Senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette.
These tragic events coincide with rising political tensions in the United States, as the horrific crime occurred last Saturday morning.
Boelter, dressed in an outfit resembling an official police uniform, broke into Representative Melissa Hortman's home in the northern Minneapolis suburbs and shot her and her husband Mark, killing them instantly. Hours later, Boelter attacked Senator John Hoffman's home, located 15 kilometers away, injuring Hoffman and his wife Yvette severely.
According to the criminal complaint revealed on Sunday evening, Boelter faces two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of attempted second-degree murder.
He was arrested on Sunday evening in a rural area of Sibley County, southwest of Minneapolis, after a two-day manhunt.
A firearm was found in his possession, and police reported that he fled on foot after the police responded to the shooting at the Hortman home.
Governor Tim Walz stated: The actions of one unimaginable man have changed the course of Minnesota, adding that investigations are ongoing to uncover the motives behind the attack, which has shocked the state.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had announced a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to Boelter's arrest, distributing a photo of him wearing a cowboy hat on the day of the attack.
A vehicle believed to have been used by Boelter was found near his home in Green Isle, an hour west of Minneapolis, containing evidence related to the crime.
Drew Evans, director of the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, reported that police interviewed Boelter's wife and family members, who cooperated with the investigation and were not detained.
In a statement posted by Senator Amy Klobuchar on social media, Yvette Hoffman expressed her gratitude for the public support, saying: John is undergoing multiple surgeries and is nearing recovery, he was shot 9 times, and I was shot 8 times, and we are very lucky to be alive. We are devastated by the loss of Melissa and Mark.
