Hilal's assistant coach, Faris, confirmed in response to a question from "Okaz" that maintaining physical energy was one of the important aspects in preparing the team for the match, noting that the coaching staff relied on multiple solutions that contributed to the players appearing in good physical condition until the last minutes of the encounter.
Faris explained during the press conference following the match against Al-Fateh that Hilal delivered a positive performance, successfully imposing its control over the course of the game and maintaining its rhythm until the end, indicating that the only observation regarding the team's performance was the limitation to scoring only two goals despite the large number of attempts and opportunities that were available in front of the goal.
In discussing the opponent's offensive transitions, he pointed out that the coaching staff studied this aspect well before the match, especially since the attacking trio of Kanga, Patna, and Arslan tended to stay away from the rest of the team's lines, creating dangerous spaces in counterattacks. He noted that Al-Fateh presented a different match than usual, as Patna and Arslan participated more in defensive duties, contributing to supporting their team until the last minutes to limit Hilal's danger, while Patna was present in transitions despite often positioning himself away from his teammates.
Faris revealed that coach Simone Inzaghi sent a clear message to the players before the match, emphasizing the need to return to the path of victories after the previous loss, telling them: "We come from a loss, and we must win today and compensate for what happened in the last match."
Regarding the physical condition of team captain Salem Al-Dosari, he clarified that he completed the training session normally before feeling some pain afterward, which required him to undergo examination by the medical staff, confirming that any complaint from the player necessitates verifying his condition before making an appropriate decision regarding his participation.
Concerning the team's performance, he acknowledged that the coaching staff expected a faster pace in play and a higher ability to pressure the opponent, especially since Theo Hernandez was the only player who participated for 60 minutes in the AFC Champions League match. However, the different nature of the matches and the difficulty of facing teams that rely on defensive blocks affected the rhythm of play.
He emphasized that losing one match does not change Hilal's position in the competition, confirming that the team is still at the top of the standings, and that the coaching staff and players are continuously working to optimally prepare for upcoming encounters and to continue delivering performances that befit Hilal's name and the aspirations of its fans.
Regarding the criticisms related to the team's level and changes in the lineup, Faris explained that the coaching staff made several changes during the AFC Champions League match, refusing to downplay the performance that Hilal delivered against Al-Qadisiyah. He said: "We delivered a great match against Al-Qadisiyah, and we won on the ground of the team that was at the top of the standings before our encounter, so we are confident in what we are providing."
He added that the team is aware of its need to develop some technical aspects, especially speeding up offensive operations when the match conditions allow it, confirming that having an opponent seeking to close spaces and impose its style should be taken into account when evaluating performance.
Regarding the refereeing situations, Faris clarified that one situation did not result in a penalty kick due to Patna touching the ball with his hand, pointing out that there was another situation inside Al-Fateh's penalty area that could have seen a penalty awarded to Samardzic had there not been a preceding handball.
Faris concluded his remarks by emphasizing that matches cannot be evaluated based on assumptions or what could have happened, but rather according to the facts witnessed on the field, stressing the importance of continuing to work, improving performance, and maintaining the top position in the standings.
