Sources informed "Okaz" that the management of Al-Ahli Club has decided to dismiss Dutch coach Marino Pusic from his position, following the team's match against Qatari club Al-Sadd, scheduled for next Monday at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium in the Qatari capital, Doha, as part of the AFC Champions League for elite teams. This decision comes in light of the heavy defeat the team suffered against Al-Shabab, losing six goals to one, during the 12th round of the Roshen Saudi Professional League.
Sources revealed that the harsh loss against Al-Shabab hastened the Al-Ahli management's decision to terminate the contractual relationship with the Dutch coach, given the decline in the team's results and performance levels in recent times, and the management's dissatisfaction with the performance the team has shown under his leadership.
Furthermore, sources indicated that several first-team players held a meeting with the Al-Ahli management, during which they expressed their lack of confidence in coach Pusic and his tactical approach to managing the team, pointing out concerns regarding his training and tactical style. This contributed to accelerating the administrative moves to make a decision regarding the coaching change after the match against Al-Sadd.
In a related context, "Okaz" sources confirmed that the CEO of Al-Ahli Club, Frenchman Fabrice Boukhet, has reached an agreement with a new sports director to take over the position following the dismissal of Portuguese Rui Pedro, who was removed from his position earlier. The identity of the new sports director will be officially announced once the necessary contractual procedures are completed.
These moves come as part of the Al-Ahli management's efforts to restructure the sports file and correct the team's course, following a series of results that have caused dissatisfaction among Al-Ahli fans, with hopes that the anticipated changes at both the technical and administrative levels will help restore stability to the team and regain its ability to compete in local and continental tournaments.
It is worth noting that Dutch coach Marino Pusic took over the leadership of Al-Ahli last August, with a contract extending until 2028. However, the heavy loss against Al-Shabab, along with the dissatisfaction of several players with his coaching methods, has placed his experience with the team on the brink of ending after less than three months in charge.
