وسجلت مباريات دور المجموعات هفوات أسفرت عن أهداف حاسمة، مثل التصدي غير الدقيق للحارس الكوري الجنوبي «كيم سيونج جيو» والذي كلف فريقه خسارة أمام المكسيك، وكذلك الحارس الإنجليزي جوردان بيكفورد الذي واجه صعوبة كبيرة في إبعاد كرة صاروخية من اللاعب الكرواتي مارتن باتورينا في دور المجموعات، والتي دخلت الشباك رغم لمس أطراف أصابعه لها.
وسُجل حتى الآن أكثر من 12 هدفا من خارج منطقة الجزاء باستخدام الكرة الرسمية للبطولة، إضافةً إلى عدد من الأهداف السهلة التي جاءت بعد إخفاق الحراس في الإمساك بتسديدات متحركة ومنحنية.
