عاد مشجع مانشستر يونايتد الشهير بتحدي «الشعر الطويل» إلى نقطة البداية، بعد تعادل فريقه 1-1 مع مضيفه وست هام يونايتد، في الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز، ليُحرم من قص شعره للمرة الأولى منذ أكتوبر 2024.
وكان فرانك إيليت قد تعهد بعدم قص شعره حتى يحقق مانشستر يونايتد خمسة انتصارات متتالية، في مبادرة طريفة تحولت إلى ظاهرة لفتت أنظار جماهير كرة القدم حول العالم. واقترب إيليت من إنهاء التحدي بعدما قاد المدرب المؤقت مايكل كاريك الفريق إلى أربعة انتصارات متتالية، قبل أن يوقف التعادل الأخير السلسلة.
واكتسب التحدي شهرة واسعة باعتباره تعبيراً ساخراً عن الأداء المتقلب لمانشستر يونايتد خلال السنوات الأخيرة، حيث تجاوز عدد متابعي إيليت على منصة «إنستغرام» 1.3 مليون متابع.
وقال إيليت لمتابعيه قبل مواجهة وست هام في لندن إن الفريق بات قريباً من كسر العقدة، مضيفاً: «هذه أول مرة يحقق فيها يونايتد أربعة انتصارات متتالية منذ أن بدأت هذا التحدي، وكنت واثقاً أن النهاية ستكون أمام وست هام».
لكن التعادل أعاد المشجع إلى نقطة الصفر، ليواصل رحلة الشعر الطويل في فترة وصفها بـ«المضطربة» للنادي، معترفاً بأنه لم يكن يتخيل أن يستمر التحدي كل هذا الوقت.
وأوضح في تصريحات لشبكة ESPN أن الفكرة بدأت كمزحة بسيطة لإضفاء بعض المرح على جماهير مانشستر يونايتد خلال فترة صعبة، لكنها تحولت إلى قصة متابعة يومية لعشاق النادي.
وسيخوض مانشستر يونايتد مبارياته الخمس القادمة أمام إيفرتون، وكريستال بالاس، ونيوكاسل يونايتد، وأستون فيلا، وبورنموث، في محاولة جديدة لإعادة إطلاق سلسلة الانتصارات، وربما منح مشجعه الأشهر فرصة أخيرة لزيارة الحلاق.
The famous Manchester United fan known for the "long hair" challenge has returned to square one, after his team drew 1-1 with host West Ham United in the Premier League, depriving him of cutting his hair for the first time since October 2024.
Frank Elet had vowed not to cut his hair until Manchester United achieved five consecutive victories, in a humorous initiative that turned into a phenomenon attracting the attention of football fans around the world. Elet was close to completing the challenge after interim coach Michael Carrick led the team to four consecutive victories, before the recent draw halted the streak.
The challenge gained widespread fame as a sarcastic expression of Manchester United's fluctuating performance in recent years, with Elet's followers on Instagram surpassing 1.3 million.
Elet told his followers before the match against West Ham in London that the team was close to breaking the curse, adding: "This is the first time United has achieved four consecutive victories since I started this challenge, and I was confident that the end would be against West Ham."
However, the draw brought the fan back to square one, allowing him to continue his long hair journey during a period he described as "troubled" for the club, admitting that he never imagined the challenge would last this long.
He explained in statements to ESPN that the idea started as a simple joke to bring some fun to Manchester United fans during a tough time, but it turned into a daily story for the club's supporters.
Manchester United will play their next five matches against Everton, Crystal Palace, Newcastle United, Aston Villa, and Bournemouth, in a new attempt to reignite their winning streak, and perhaps give their most famous fan one last chance to visit the barber.
