The local organizing committee for football events announced that the iconic Lusail Stadium will host the Finalissima Cup on March 27, bringing together the champions of the two continents, Europe and South America. The match will feature the Spanish national team, crowned the champion of the UEFA Euro 2024, against the Argentine national team, the champion of the Copa América 2024.

This match holds special significance for the Argentine team, as it returns to the sports venue where it won the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, following a decisive match against the French team.

On this occasion, His Excellency Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani, Minister of Sports and Youth and Chairman of the local organizing committee, said: “We take pride in hosting this meeting that brings together two prestigious champions. We have a proven track record in organizing and hosting world-class sporting events, providing an exceptional experience for fans, supporters, and media. Hosting the Finalissima Cup 2026 is further evidence of the great confidence our partners have in our capabilities and the leading position of Qatar as a capital of sports in the region and the world.”

The hosting of the Finalissima 2026 comes in the wake of a record football season witnessed by the country at the end of 2025, which reaffirmed Qatar's exceptional organizational capabilities and the confidence of the international football community in its ability to host world-class tournaments.

The series of football events at the end of 2025 includes Qatar hosting the first edition of the Under-17 World Cup with the participation of 48 teams, which saw 104 matches held in one region. Qatar also hosted the Arabian Gulf Cup Under-17 Qatar 2025, which concluded with the Saudi national team being crowned champion. The country is currently hosting the Arabian Gulf Cup Under-23 Qatar 2025, which will conclude on December 16, and is also hosting the last three matches of the Club World Cup during the rest days of the ongoing Arab Cup, which will conclude on December 18.

UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin said: “This match embodies the unity of two footballing continents and highlights the global reach of the game in a prestigious encounter by all standards. We look forward to a unique evening with high-level performances and a football celebration on an international stage.”

For his part, Alejandro Domínguez, President of the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL), added: “This anticipated encounter goes beyond mere sports competition; it is a symbol of cooperation and respect between continental federations, and an opportunity for fans to enjoy a historic sporting event.”
