استعاد فريق الاتحاد نغمة الانتصارات بعد تفوقه على ضيفه الرياض بنتيجة 2/ 1 في اللقاء الذي احتضنه ملعب الأمير عبدالله الفيصل بجدة، ضمن الجولة التاسعة من دوري روشن السعودي.
وسجّل للاتحاد كريم بنزيما (24)، ومحمد الخيبري (بالخطأ في مرماه 42)، بينما قلص السنغالي مامادو سيلا النتيجة للرياض (د: 77)، وشهد اللقاء حصول لاعب الاتحاد موسى ديابي على بطاقة حمراء.
بدأ الاتحاد المباراة بقوة، وأبعد الحارس الكندي ميلان بوريان أكثر من فرصة خطرة إلى أن نجح كريم بنزيما في افتتاح التسجيل برأسية محكمة بعد عرضية من موسى ديابي، قبل أن يضيف الاتحاد الهدف الثاني من خطأ دفاعي استغله نغولو كانتي ليمرر الكرة التي ارتطمت بالخيبري ودخلت الشباك (د: 42).
وفي الشوط الثاني واصل الاتحاد أفضليته، وكاد مهند الشنقيطي يضيف الهدف الثالث، قبل أن يُطرد موسى ديابي بالبطاقة الحمراء المباشرة (د: 73)، واستفاد الرياض من النقص العددي ليقلص سيلا الفارق برأسية (د: 77)، وفي الوقت بدل الضائع أنقذ حارس الرياض بوريان مرماه من تسديدة قوية لفابينيو، لتنتهي المواجهة بفوز الاتحاد بهدفين لهدف.
وبهذه النتيجة يحقق الاتحاد فوزه الرابع ويصل للنقطة 14 وفي المركز الـ 7، فيما تلقى الرياض الخسارة الـ5 وتجمد رصيده عند 8 نقاط وفي المركز الـ13.

In the second half, Al-Ittihad continued to dominate, and Mohannad Al-Shanqiti nearly added the third goal before Moussa Diaby was sent off with a direct red card (73). Al-Riyadh took advantage of the numerical disadvantage to reduce the gap with a header from Sylla (77). In stoppage time, Al-Riyadh's goalkeeper Borjan saved his goal from a powerful shot by Fabinho, ending the match with Al-Ittihad winning two goals to one.
