في مشهدٍ حبست فيه القاعة أنفاسها، عُرضت أمام هيئة المحلفين في محكمة التاج البريطانية بمدينة كامبريدج تسجيلات مرئية وثّقت اللحظات التي سبقت جريمة طعن المبتعث السعودي محمد القاسم، ولحظات تنفيذها، ثم فرار المتهم. أدلةٌ قالت النيابة إنها حاسمة، ودحضت بصورة قاطعة مزاعم الدفاع عن النفس، بالتوازي مع شهادة صديقه عبد الله صالح بن شُعيل الذي روى تفاصيل الرعب قائلاً: «ظننت أنني سأكون الضحية التالية».

المحاكمة كشفت تسلسلاً زمنياً دقيقاً لتحركات المتهم والضحية، وأظهرت – بحسب الادعاء – غياب أي مشاجرة أو تهديد يبرر استخدام السلاح، فيما أقر المتهم بقتل الطالب البالغ من العمر 20 عاماً، لكنه أنكر تهمة القتل العمد مدعياً أنه كان يدافع عن نفسه.

أدلة مرئية تُسقط «الدفاع عن النفس»
عرض الادعاء تسجيلات كاميرات المراقبة التي رصدت المتهم قبل الحادثة وأثناءها وبعدها، موضحاً أن المقاطع أظهرت عدم وجود أي احتكاك عدائي سابق بين الطرفين. كما كشفت اللقطات وجود المتهم داخل إحدى الحانات في حالة غير طبيعية، تحت تأثير المسكرات والمخدرات، وهو يحمل سكيناً في جيبه.
وأظهرت المشاهد المصورة لاحقاً المتهم وهو يفر عبر منطقة مخصصة للمشاة عقب الطعن، في مشهد وصفه الادعاء بأنه «صادم»، ويعكس سلوك المعتدي لا المدافع عن نفسه.
شهادة الصديق: لحظات الرعب أمام باب السكن
أمام المحكمة، روى عبد الله صالح بن شُعيل، الذي كان يقف خارج مبنى سكن فاخر في كامبريدج ليلة الأول من أغسطس الماضي، تفاصيل اللحظات التي سبقت الطعنة القاتلة. وقال إنه أخرج بطاقة الدخول من جيبه ليفتح باب السكن الجامعي، معتقداً أنه سيكون الهدف التالي.
وأوضح أن القاسم كان يجلس بهدوء على جدار منخفض قرب مدخل المبنى، «يبتسم ويتحدث» مع زملائه، قبل أن يقترب منه المتهم مرتدياً سترة صفراء عاكسة وشورتاً متسخاً، وكان – بحسب الشاهد – «يتمايل من جانب إلى آخر» ولا يمشي بصورة طبيعية.
وأشار إلى أن حديثاً قصيراً وهادئاً دار بين الطرفين، قبل أن يبتعد المتهم ثم يعود متوتراً قائلاً: «ماذا قلت؟». وأضاف أن القاسم ظل هادئاً، بينما اقترب المتهم من وجهه وانحنى إلى مستواه وهو يصرخ.

طعنة خاطفة… وتهديد مباشر
قال بن شُعيل إن القاسم نهض ووقف وجهاً لوجه مع المتهم، قبل أن ينفصلا دون تدافع. «فجأة أخرج سكيناً من جيبه وطعن محمد. في البداية ظننتها لكمة»، مضيفاً أن الضربة كانت قوية في الجهة اليسرى من العنق حتى طارت قبعة الضحية من شدة الطعنة.
وتابع: «وضع محمد يده على عنقه واتجه مبتعداً، حينها رأيت السكين والدم على نصلها». وأكد أن المتهم نظر إليه قائلاً: «ماذا ستفعل؟»، في عبارة فهمها على أنها تهديد مباشر.
وبعد ثوانٍ، انهار القاسم في الشارع متأثراً بإصابته، فيما غادر المتهم المكان وهو يمسك بسيجارة في إحدى يديه.
سلوك مريب قبل الجريمة
خلال جلسات المحاكمة، استمعت هيئة المحلفين إلى إفادات تفيد بأن المتهم أمضى جزءاً من المساء مع صديقة قالت إنه «ربما تعاطى مخدرات»، مشيرة إلى أن حالته بدت مختلفة عن سُكره المعتاد. كما أفادت بأنه حاول التحرش بها وبجارة أخرى.
وقبل اللقاء المميت، زار المتهم حانة «إيرل أوف ديربي»، وأخبر أحد روادها أنه يحمل سكيناً، مبرراً ذلك بأنه للدفاع عن النفس، بعد أن ذكر أنه سبق أن تعرض لإطلاق نار وطعن.
تقرير الطب الشرعي: نزيف قاتل
كشف تقرير التشريح أن الوفاة نجمت عن طعنة واحدة في الجهة اليسرى من العنق قطعت الشريان السباتي والوريد الوداجي، ما تسبب في نزيف حاد أودى بحياة الطالب خلال وقت قصير.
وفي افتتاح القضية، أكد المدعي العام أن الضحية «لم يشكل أي تهديد لأحد»، مضيفاً: «المتهم كان هو المعتدي. ما حدث كان عملاً عنيفاً غير مبرر وعديم المعنى… لم يكن حادثاً، ولم يكن دفاعاً عن النفس، بل كان قتلاً عمداً».

Visual Evidence Dismisses "Self-Defense"
The prosecution presented surveillance footage that captured the suspect before, during, and after the incident, clarifying that the clips showed no prior hostile interaction between the two parties. The footage also revealed the suspect inside a bar in an abnormal state, under the influence of alcohol and drugs, carrying a knife in his pocket.
Later recorded scenes showed the suspect fleeing through a pedestrian area after the stabbing, in a scene described by the prosecution as "shocking," reflecting the behavior of an attacker rather than someone defending themselves.
Friend's Testimony: Moments of Terror at the Dormitory Door
In court, Abdullah Saleh bin Shuail, who was standing outside a luxury dormitory building in Cambridge on the night of August 1, recounted the moments leading up to the fatal stabbing. He said he took out his entry card from his pocket to open the dormitory door, believing he would be the next target.
He explained that Al-Qasim was sitting quietly on a low wall near the entrance of the building, "smiling and talking" with his friends, before the suspect approached him wearing a reflective yellow jacket and dirty shorts, and was – according to the witness – "swaying from side to side" and not walking normally.
He noted that a short and calm conversation took place between the two, before the suspect walked away and then returned, agitated, saying: "What did you say?" He added that Al-Qasim remained calm, while the suspect leaned close to his face and shouted.

Quick Stabbing… and Direct Threat
Bin Shuail stated that Al-Qasim stood up and faced the suspect, before they separated without any pushing. "Suddenly, he pulled a knife from his pocket and stabbed Mohammed. At first, I thought it was a punch," adding that the blow was strong on the left side of the neck, causing the victim's hat to fly off from the force of the stab.
He continued: "Mohammed put his hand on his neck and moved away, at which point I saw the knife and blood on its blade." He confirmed that the suspect looked at him and said: "What are you going to do?" in a phrase he understood as a direct threat.
Seconds later, Al-Qasim collapsed in the street, affected by his injury, while the suspect left the scene holding a cigarette in one hand.
Suspicious Behavior Before the Crime
During the trial sessions, the jury heard testimonies indicating that the suspect spent part of the evening with a friend who said he "might have taken drugs," noting that his condition seemed different from his usual drunkenness. It was also reported that he attempted to harass her and another neighbor.
Before the fatal encounter, the suspect visited the "Earl of Derby" pub and told one of its patrons that he was carrying a knife, justifying it as for self-defense, after mentioning that he had previously been shot at and stabbed.
Forensic Report: Fatal Bleeding
The autopsy report revealed that the death resulted from a single stab wound to the left side of the neck that severed the carotid artery and jugular vein, causing severe bleeding that led to the student's death within a short time.
In opening the case, the prosecutor stated that the victim "did not pose any threat to anyone," adding: "The suspect was the aggressor. What happened was an unprovoked and senseless act of violence… it was not an accident, nor was it self-defense; it was murder."
