وذكرت صحيفة «موندو ديبورتيفو» الإسبانية أن حسام حسن رفع علم فلسطين عقب الفوز على أستراليا، وهو ما قد يُعد تحدياً لقواعد الاتحاد الدولي لكرة القدم «فيفا»، التي تحظر أو تقيد الرسائل السياسية في المباريات، كما قال عقب المباراة: «قلبي وروحي معهم، أُهدي الفوز للشعبين المصري والفلسطيني».

وأضافت الصحيفة الإسبانية: «يبقى أن نرى ما إذا كان فيفا سيتخذ أي إجراء أو يفرض أي عقوبات على حسام حسن، الذي سيواجه تحدياً صعباً ضد الأرجنتين الثلاثاء القادم، في محاولة للتأهل إلى الدور ربع النهائي».

The Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo" reported that Hossam Hassan raised the Palestinian flag after the victory over Australia, which may be considered a challenge to FIFA's regulations that prohibit or restrict political messages in matches.
