أعلنت النيابة العامة المكسيكية، الجمعة، العثور على جثة الصحفية روكسانا غوزمان، التي اختطفها مسلحون من منزلها مطلع يونيو الماضي.
وكان رجلان ملثمان قد اقتحما منزل غوزمان واختطفاها في حادثة وثقتها كاميرات المراقبة، قبل أن تعثر السلطات لاحقًا على جثمانها داخل منزل بولاية فيراكروز شرقي المكسيك، حيث كانت تعيش وتزاول عملها الصحفي.
وأوضحت النيابة أن السلطات أوقفت 8 مشتبه بهم على خلفية القضية، ووجهت إليهم تهم القتل، من بينهم 4 أفراد من الشرطة والبلدية.
وأضافت أن عناصر الشرطة المتهمين وفروا الدعم اللوجستي والموارد والإمدادات للجماعة الإجرامية المتورطة في عملية اختطاف الصحفية.
وكانت غوزمان تدير موقعًا إخباريًا محليًا في ولاية فيراكروز، التي شهدت منذ بداية العام مقتل صحفيين آخرين، ما يعكس استمرار المخاطر التي تواجه العاملين في المجال الإعلامي بالمنطقة.
The Mexican Attorney General's Office announced on Friday that the body of journalist Roxana Guzmán, who was kidnapped by armed men from her home in early June, has been found.
Two masked men had stormed Guzmán's home and kidnapped her in an incident captured by surveillance cameras, before authorities later found her body inside a house in Veracruz state, eastern Mexico, where she lived and worked as a journalist.
The Attorney General's Office clarified that authorities have arrested 8 suspects in connection with the case and charged them with murder, including 4 individuals from the police and municipal forces.
It added that the accused police officers provided logistical support, resources, and supplies to the criminal group involved in the kidnapping of the journalist.
Guzmán managed a local news website in Veracruz state, which has seen the killings of other journalists since the beginning of the year, reflecting the ongoing dangers faced by media workers in the region.
